D16Y7 Automatic, anyone boosted it?

As topic says, just curious who has done it and how it made out.

Most people espeically the honda guys all have 5spd's. Haven't really seen too many auto.'s. I hear the only good thing about having a auto is you get alot better traction when racing. I'd really like to see how it works out though.

it works out great!

d15b7 and automatic tranny on 8psi was hella sweet...had to turn it down to 6psi and it still surprises a lot of "sports" cars..heee heee hee

I have a 4 speed auto original D16Z6 in my '93 DelSolSi w/10lbs of boost. Very respectable launches if U set the gear selector for 3 speed. I don't really race though. I have noticed that the autos make up (don't loose) time on the shifts when it comes to turbo lag. Since you don't have to release the accelerator, you could maintain one long charge through the gears. So no lag. Don't know how good that would be for the engine though. :P

manual trannys are more efficent at transferring power to the wheels than autos. But in an auto you don't have to lift off the throttle to shift so you get constant boost between gears. That being said I would take a manual over an auto ANY day. Manuals are much tougher than autos and Papadakis and the other guys have taken standard Honda 5 speeds into the 9's (with an upgraded clutch of course). they are now using some hybrid sandrail trannys but for a while the Honda 5 speed was standard issue. You can upgrade the auto with a higher stall speed and stronger torque converter but most people will tell you it's not a good idea for a daily driver.

The only bad thing I could see about keeping the boost while going through the gears is burning up the clutch plates in the tranny. I would suggest a transmission cooler. Automatic transissions are sensative to heat. Heat kills auots fast. Other than that go for it. ;)

i slightly let off when the car shifts. gets the BOV to sound off but at the same time, every thing seems to engage quicker than if i were to just keep the pedal down.

I had a custom shift kit installed in my auto, after, it chirps through the gears. But yes, clutch packs will take there wear and tear. BUt there is nothing like lauching in boost with an auto. Perfect everytime, good ol' brake stand as you watch the turbo spool up ;D
