Default d16a9 turbo build

hello peeps. new to this forum but reads very well! glad to hear its all home brew stuff!

i've got a d16a9 twin cam motor spare in me garage and was looking to build it up as a turbo motor. i'm planning on doing as much HMT stylee as possible.

going to, port n polish head, fill the block (thanx to the great writeup on here!), arp head bolts, arp rod bolts, new water pump, new oil pump, manifold off of an old concerto adapter plate to hopefully a t3 (still understanding the choose ur turbo bit!), 2.5" downpipe and exhaust, pp4 ecu chipped with ostrich and BRE, some bigger injectors? (not sure on size but 450cc maybe??), bigger throttle body, ebay dump valve, hmt charge pipes, some fmic.

is there anything else i should be looking for? and what should i do about rods as i heard they dont like much over 220hp, which i dont mind for now as ill be happy with 200, but im sure ill want to go higher!

if you're going to build a turbo motor you should get forged rods & pistons that can take a beating!

ebay dump valve...not sure if you are talking about the wastegate or bov but youll need both. On top of what you said youll need an oil line kit, some random vacuum hoses, couplers, probably a clutch unless you're auto, then a tranny swap and a clutch, and a boost gauge....im probably forgetting a couple things but make sure you start out at the "NooB if you want to build a turbo kit" (something like that) section on the front page of Forced Induction. Itll basically tell you everything you need to know.

be careful with the head, as it's already got large ports, don't enlarge them or you'll kill the motor in almost all the range.

yeah i was just planning on smoothing the casting marks and polishin the exhaust ports n cyl dome. the t3 my mates got has an internal wastegate, do ya reckon id be best off getting an external, would the internal one not do?

i was looking at eagle rods, they any good? what pistons have other peeps used, ive read about vitara pistons fitting but not sure if theyd fit mine, need to search for the sizes i guess!

most internally gated t3s are around 8psi i believe....wouldnt know for sure unless you had more info about it....but if you're building the motor I would go for a good external so you have more control with higher boost levels.....eagle rods are good if you have the money.....i would wait until you get someone on this thread that has been around longer than the rest of us.....they will be able to hook ya up with some more specific info about vitaras

the vitaras work in lowering the c.r., though not for high boost as they are for a na car.

What is this going in?

My ZC (Basically a glorified a9) Is running eagles, and SRP D16a6 11:1CR Piston (Gives the ZC about 9.1:1)
