d16a6

Hi guys,

I talk a lot with jeff about turbo project.

I have a D16A6 with a IHI RHB5 turbo (mx6) at 8psi and i just finish the installation.

I install the SMC with 450cc injector.

When i go to try it yesterday, i look that the turbo begin to spool a 3500 rpm and i have my 8 psi at 4000 rpm.

it is normal???

thanks a lot :D

small turbo=fast spool time

Re:d16a6

ok but on your turbo project, it said that with the same turbo, it spool at 2200 rpm??? do you think i have made a mistake??

thanks

did it make a big different in your car?

beau or jeff do you know of any junkyard in like bellingham or everret.
i cant find an HF manifold to save my life. ( i dont think they exist in canada)

Re:d16a6

In canada, try to find a manifold of civic VX 92.

jeff or beau do you think the IHI RHB5 spool more faster than 3500 rpm???

Re:d16a6

Depends on exhaust alot on spool times, The IHI's are very quick, they have small turbines, which are great for D-series. It's been awhile since I have been in one. Beaus old Turbo ZC w/ RHB5 spooled incredibly fast, and Dustins turbo ZC spools the same, I dont know what exact rpms everything is happening at.. You may want to ask turbohf.

Not in Bellingham, already looked. That was like a year ago, so it might me worth a try. FYI, Bellingham yards suck ass, way to expensive. Tacoma, Spanaway, rules for yards. (if you dont mind all the crack heads and mullets)

i really cant remember at what rpm my old turbo zc spooled but it spooled very quick.

I got a manifold off a VX, and I am in canada(got it from the wreckors and they riped me off),and it was pretty hard to find. My buddy bought a HF off of Ebay. You could try there. Where in canada are you located?

Re:d16a6

yes i see that on your page. but on my d16a6, it spool at 3500 rpm but i don't have my full 8 psi until 4000-4300 rpm. i think i have a problem ??? ???
did you know what could it be?

thanks

im in abbotsford BC.

VX as in EG's?

Re:d16a6

i'm sure i have a problem.

also, when a do the road test, i receive the code 1(o2sensor), and later, the code 3(MAP sensor). but with the SMC, it suppose to modify the signal for ECU.

And it spool too late. maybe because it is a d16a6 and not a ZC???

what do you think of that guys????

thanks

Re:d16a6

Well, What is the O2 sensor doing? have you checked its readings? is it working?

A map sensor code will be giving because the Stock map cannot read anything over 3.0v's You will need to install some check valves on your map sensor line. (you can get check valves at auto stores) 2-3 should do the trick.
I am suprised you are getting that code with the SMC?
maybe you still need to ---- with it.

I wouldnt worry about your spool time, and yes that is probably why, the ZC head flows alot better than the a6.

What do you mean by that????

It's work because, i can test it for the 1,2,3 drive. and sometime, the check engine light.

So maybe it's my map sensor the problem???

on my renault 5 gt turbo (1400 8v, factory turbocharged, garrett T2) the boost gauge starts picking up at about 2000, by 3000 i have 9psi and by 7000 i have about 14psi....

Re:d16a6

Get a multimeter, and probe the map sensor signal wire while you are boosting, if it goes over 3.0v's the CEL will throw a map code.

Re:d16a6

ok but is the map sensor is not functioning propertly, what is gonna be the signal???

@ boost pixie

On what kind of boost does a standard R5 run?

ok but the problem is i don't have the code every time in boost. i can run 15 minutes until i have a Code. Maybe it is a problem with the sensor or with the SMC who is not modifying properly the signal.

Re:d16a6

is the ecu getting input to the map sensor or not?

Jeff

civic1990si 12-26-2002 02:00 PM

Re:d16a6

the Map sensor wire enter to the SMC and supose to be modified and return to the ECU. I don't know if i have an other wire to the MAP sensor on a d16a6 1990??

HMT-Admin 12-26-2002 07:14 PM

Re:d16a6

Well, I am assuming the SMC controller is just put inline on your map sensor signal wire. 1 input and 1 output. Its pretty simple to read with a voltmeter/multimeter. You should have about 2.2v at idle or so before the controller and a much lower voltage on the output wire to the ECU.

Why not ask the guy you bought it from?

Jeff

Re:d16a6

yeah i just send im email but i supose he don't take his mail for chrismas.

tomorow, i will try to take the voltage of the map sensor to the input and the output.

thanks a lot for the help :D
