d15 classical rod problem ( updated with pics )

As most of you have seen, I dyno my car to 231HP
its a stock d15z6 with a thicker head gasket

Iam concerned about the Rods and pistons.
What would you guys advise, in a ghetto way.
Would any Rods fit from another Car make maybe?
If i just buy forged rods, can i stay with stock pistons?

I dont know what to do, i wish i could afford a Forged set
THx for Help ;D

Re:d15 classical rod problem

sorry, but if its a JDM engine, it wont have a suffix. i.e. D15Z

Tomo_HC3D 03-02-2004 11:07 AM

Re:d15 classical rod problem

Re:d15 classical rod problem

You can use rods from a ZC and they are alot stroger than the d15 rods also you can use your stock pistons. Another choice is Ls rods from an Integra but you mite have to have the bushings machined to make them fit but they are very strong and are a hell of alot cheaper than after market rods.

Re:d15 classical rod problem

Not true
the brown top ZC's have the thickest and strongest rod's of the D-series...and non of the 1.6 rod's will fit in a 1.5
The 1.6 rod's are 3mm longer I would worry about the pistons hitting the valves are get the block decked??

Re:d15 classical rod problem

Semons is right. The was a thread about this a long time ago. D15 rods with d15 block and D16 rods With D16 blocks or you go for a dissater when you crank it over if it ever does.

Erollinablunt 03-03-2004 03:45 AM

Re:d15 classical rod problem

why we got d16z6 all over the place we don't need no 1.5!

Re:d15 classical rod problem

i have a d15b vtec with 130hp but im crying cuz this engine cant be built for ---- because of the lack of parts.

besides euro versions suck

91civicZ6 03-04-2004 08:23 AM

Re:d15 classical rod problem

d15b is only 128hp. 130ps = 128hp.

d15b/d15z is a normal 1.5 block and crank with VX rods.

you can take any 1.5L engine, use VX rods and then you can put 1.6 pistons in them.

what about b16 stock rods in a d motor?

Re:d15 classical rod problem

Hahaha...nice one Bigmike...but seriously...u can swap both d15 and d16 pistons with each other. U can't swap the rods, cause of different journal sizes, but the pistons do change out. How do i know this? Cause for ----'s and giggles i built a d16a6 mini-me with d15b2 flat top pistons to see if there was a difference. Worked great, just sat above the deck of the block. So by swapping a d16 piston into a d15, u are lowering your C/R by a hella lot (pm6's are dished)at the cost of your piston not traveling to the "normal" deck height. In my opinion...not even worth doing though. Just my two cents.

ibby 03-10-2004 04:00 AM

Re:d15 classical rod problem

for that price u were better off going for crower rods. :o

Is that guy on HT "TurboPanda" still selling the machined B series rods w/oldschool Supra pistons + rings for like 300? Always seemed like a good idea to me, but I never got around to buying any.

Thats a damn shame, ... someone else should step in and source that stuff. Paying someone in Thailand is just asking for it.
