d series head gasket
 

gotta blown head gasket in my d series vtec
98 model with a greddy turbo kit.
is this easy to replace?....300 is alot and it looks like i can do it
also, is the v-afc hack still a nice set-up?
im running a v-afc with stock injectors, fmu, and a missing link
any suggestions?

It's not hard. It just takes time if you haven't done it before. You should have the Multilayer metal gasket on there, but if not, that's the one you want to use. It's the stock honda head gasket for d16y8 engines. The majority of time I spent doing it was running to the autoparts store for supplies. Make sure you have 2 pans for draining oil/antifreeze into, lots of shop rags/towels, all the necessary tools including a torque wrench and a Helms manual for your car (If you don't have one, look in the hybrid/tech forum at the top, there are links to online copies)

it's not too hard if you worked on cars before, the first thing to remember is to set the #1 cylinder at top dead center, if you have a repair manual it will make things alot easier, basicly go through and remove any hoses that is connected to the block...coolant hose, fuel line, fuel rail, radiator hoses, and you need to under the car and there in a bracket that the intake manifold sits on, you need you unbolt that.b-sure to label evrything. take off your turbo manifold and dizzy, and slide off your timming belt, remmember to set it at TDC before you take it off, you will now start unbolting the head, the cams and intake mani stays on the head, once you determine that the head is free ahve a friend help you pull the head off, pull strait up, and have cardboard or mat handy to set the head on, there will be a little oil left in the head. I hope this helps, I replaced mine a year ago, it took about three hours if anyone see I forgot somthing please add. I hope this helps.

make sure to take the head bolts out in the reverse order that your supposed to tighten them.

At least you have a metal head gasket from the factroy. All the CRX guys have to spend 2 hours clean the block/head ( if we don't have a die grinder ).

Before you put the head back on the block, and after you'vee cleaned the block/head, wipre the block/head surfaces down with mineral spirts ( I use alcohol ).

May wanna think about replacing the timing belt if you have the $$$ and its about that time.

I've got head gasket replacement down to about 3hours.

hey, im about to do a head gasket in my brothers crx this weekend... and i think im gonna actualy buy a dremel tool ... to clean the head and the block .... my question is what kind of a bit should i use that wont damage the head and the block?????????????

use a z6 or y8 head gasket n crx motors so u dont have to clean it all off ever again.

I used a wire wheel with an 18v cordless drill.

No worse than a gasket scraper would. Just tiny surface scratches if anything. Sure took the gasket off fast though ;)

haha ... well maybe i look for a real soft/fine brush ..... im sure ill find something at sears that will do the trick
