Default D.I.Y. Install: TD05-14B to HF Manifold

D.I.Y. TD05-14B to HF Manifold
w/BMC Turbo Adapter

Basics you need:
(1) HF/CX/VX/STD Manifold
(1) TD05-14B (DSM) Turbo (O2 Hsg optional)
(1) BMC 14B/HF Turbo Adapter*
(1) HF Catalytic Converter Gasket (aprox $18.00)
(1) TD05-14B Turbo Exhaust inlet Gasket (Mitsubishi P/N MD128901 aprox $5.00)
(2) M8-1.25 X 35MM studs/set screws**
(2) M8 small dia lock washers**
(2) M8-1.25 hex nuts**
(1) M10-1.25 25MM long SHCS (Socket Head Cap Screw)**
(1) M10-1.25 40MM long SHCS**
(3) M10-1.5 25MM long SHCS**
(1) Scale/ruler
(1) 4 MM allen wrench (optional for 8MM set screws)
(1) 8MM Allen wrench (for 10MM SHCS)
(1) 13MM wrench

* 14B/HF Adapter available from BMC
**Fastener Kit Available from BMC

Note: sometimes bolts need to be shortened before tightening, recommended procedure is to check to make sure that the bolt does not bottom in the threaded holes before tightening.

I recommend pre-assembly of all SHCS’s to thier maximum depth (BY HAND) and verify with a scale/ruler that the flanges are wider than the exposed bolt minus the head
If you tighten your bolts and they bottom in the threads before the adapter is tight:
a) you may find it difficult/impossible to dissasemble later and
b) you may have leaking exhaust gases

Step 1
Install 8MM-1.25 X 35MM studs/set screws with aprox. 25MM (1.0 in) exposed (longer studs may bottom in threads, DO NOT tighten with wrench)
Note: Studs/setscrews should install easily by hand

Step 2
Install adapter plate on turbo
Note: Gaskets were not available for pics, but are recommended along with High Temp Gasket Sealer
Note: the 8MM studs/setcrews are installed in the inboard Turbine Inlet flange bolt holes.

Step 3
Losely install (1) M10-1.25 X 25MM long SHCS in the counter bored hole and
temporarily install (finger tight only) the (1) M10-1.25 X 40MM long SHCS
in the remaining turbine inlet flange bolt hole
Center the flange between the max/min tolerances and tighten the M10-1.25 X 25MM long SHCS
aprox. 30 ft lbs.

Step 4
Install and tighten the (2) Lock Washers and (2) M8 Hex nuts aprox 20 ft lbs
BTW, the 13MM flare line wrench did not clear, you need a 13MM open/boxed end wrench

Step 5
Remove the (1) temporarily installed M10-1.25 X 40MM bolt and
prepare to install the manifold.
Again Note: Gaskets were not available for picture taking, but are recommended along with
High Temp Gasket Sealer

Step 6
Align the HF Manifold and loosly re-install the (1) M10-1.25 X 40MM long SHCS in the same location as before

Step 7
Loosly install the (3) M10-1.5 X 25MM long SHCS’s,
center between the max/min tolerances and tighten all (4) SHCS’s to aprox 30 ft lbs.

Assuming all went well, this is what you should now have ready to install on your Honda D Series Motor. Please note that some adjustment/clocking of the compressor housing may be required for your application.

Note: the clearances of the stock TD05-14B O2 Housing

Note the clearances under the engine, esp. the A/C mount/Torque Arm at the far right.

One Last Note: You will need a minimum of 8” clearance between the boss for the A/C Mount/Torque Arm and your radiator. If your application is an 89-91 model CRX/Civic, you may need to make other modifications to use this combination.

Happy Boosting....

looks good. That should help anyone who has the BMC plate. That actually would make a lot of sense to print out and include with your parts. Nice little write-up though.

I have started printing this one to include with 14B adapters. It seems many were confused as to how to install this particular adapter as it uses some different (not so obvious) mounting points. This combo actually makes a nice start for a DIY turbo kit.
