custom turbo job on a jeep
ok i need more power in my dd jeep. i cant afford a v8 swap. i have the 4.0l ho i6. i am thinking finding a turbo and wastegating it at like 5 psi at first. i am using the factory headers and placing the turbo under the car but above the skid plate. anyone that can help please drop a line. i need a lot of help on this one and would like if possible to do it for around 150-200 with used parts.

Re:custom turbo job on a jeep
Place the turbo higher then your oilpan.
Make your own flanges if you can. get some piping for free or cheap at a scrapyard or wherever you can find. Get a used FMU. |

A turbo kit for $200 can be done but its a 99.999% chance that your motor will blow in a few hours.

Re:custom turbo job on a jeep
what whitey said...i remember that a turbo kit for jeeps where about 2-3 grand. if you want to go the home made way your not gonna be spending 200 bux. plan on about 1000 good luck man

Re:custom turbo job on a jeep
A friend of mine built a turbo setup in his Wrangler with the 4.0 HO. He's running an FMU along with 2 supplemental injectors controlled by an SMT6 piggyback with an extra MAP sensor. He ran a 14.9 quarter last summer on 0.5 bar boost, but the car doesn't really run well, he's melted the pistons twice. He built a log type turbo manifold placing the turbo below the intake manifold.

Re:custom turbo job on a jeep
i had my uncle map my whole fuel system today and make changes. my stock injectors and computer will now accept of my turbo due to an extra jet chip he had lying around. and wow after proper fuel maping its amazing how much power increases when u are not overly rich. this is really shaping up and i have people on another forum that are helping me create manifolds. ill let everyone know if i have any probs and will post pics once i have them
