Custom project, need to choose turbo.

First, I have to say what a cool site you guys have here!

I am putting together a custom project on a small diesel tractor. I have two turbos that I am looking at and I need some advice.

One is a MHI TD025M turbo that is new and comes complete with all of the oil fittings, however it does not have a any water line fittings.

The other is a IHI RHF3 turbo. Stamped in the compressor housing is "Aisin". It is used and comes with no fittings. It's in good shape though. Am I correct in saying that the RHF series are ball bearing?

Both are same price.

Can the compressor/exhaust housings of these be rotated so that they will fit into the tight space I have to work with?

Also, I cannot remove the oil pan without removing the engine. Has anyone drilled and welded/brazed in a fitting for the oil return without removing the pan. What about if the fitting is below the oil level? The oil return would be about 12-16" straight down from the turbo to the pan.

I know these are much smaller than what you guys usually mess with, but I was wondering about which may be better.

The tractor is a nice little New Holland that I enjoy messing around with.

Welcome Joe.
There aren't going to be many people that have turbo'd a tractor here.
What size tractor are we talking about here? Specs and pics of the turbo would help as well.

As far as the oil return, maybe this might help. The RSX Greddy kit uses a banjo fitting and attaches to the oil pan plug. Since the turbo is a top mount, the oil line goes straight down.
The problem that RSX owners have is the oil line is a 3 piece with the middle being rubber hose that usually goes out. The solution is to upgrade to a 1 piece w/ stainless steel braided. Also the banjo bolt can be replaced or modified to flow better.

Hey thanks. I know that this is unusal here, however I have found this forum to be pretty informative.

The engine is a 24hp @2600 rpm, 3 cyl diesel . It's 69cid or 1.131L

The two turbos I've been looking at are:

IHI RHBF3 and a MHI TD025M. The TD025M seems to be more appropriate in size and applicable for the diesel.

I just needed to know what experiences that you guys have had with either brand. Is one better that the other?

So one thing to think about is all the flanges you will need for the different turbos. Do you have access to them? Can you make your own.

Also, what are the differences in the wastegate psi setting.
