Custom Intercooler Setup on my Porsche, some questions... Pics

4 Attachment(s)
I'm working on a custom air to water intercooler set up. I have a 12 volt pump, a resevoir and radiator that I still have to install but these are the pics so far. I have a couple of "noob" questions because I've never done a a/w setup.

Can the pump lay down flat or does it have to be upright?

http://www.northerntool.com/images/p.../450774_lg.jpg this is the pump I'm using

Then the next thing is, the pump is a 3.3 gpm pump I'm assuming the pump is going to be powerful enough to keep pressure all the way through the radiator and back up to the resevoir.

Any tips on how to wire the pump, it can run dry without harm, it has a power wire and a ground wire and thats it. I'm thinking just run a fused wire through a switch to the battery and leave it at that, and just remember to turn in on and off.. maybe use an ignition wire.

As far as the mounting goes, most (if not all) pumps I've seen don't care if they're mounted horizontal or vertical.

For wiring, since it can run dry with no problem (but does that affect the useful life?) hook up the power wire to source that's on when your ignition is on. Or your horn for mad vtec action.

Yeah, as long as the pump is submersed I don't think it gives a ---- what position it's in.

Just like dirty sluts don't care what position they're in as long as you pay.

front engine turbo? What model is that? 928?

unless that is a drag car, you should use an air/air instead. Im not knocking you, just a suggestion.

where is the turbo anyway? wtf is the filter attached to?

924 turbo aka 931

Its not a drag car, but there really is no room for an air/air so this is the next best thing, if not better.. Its completely closed loop with the resevoir and everything so its not like I'm gonna be driving around needing dry ice or anything.

The air filter is just a cheapo from advance auto parts, it fit, so I used it.

I will post some more pics soon.

How come when I look at this pic, the first thing that comes to mind is "Holy ---- he grabbed one of those things you use to put your money/deposit slip in at a drive threw bank and plumbed it in his charge piping."

lol ;)

why can't you use a 944 front mount ? it looks as though it should fit.

Looks can be decieving... There is a lot less room than there looks to be.

The 944 front mount will fit in the front nose area, however in order to get it in there, I'd have to drill out all the tack welds that hold the nose panel on. Then there is the head light mechenism and the big CIS fuel dizzy sticks up too tall.

Eventually I will be switching to a front mount, but I need to get a new front clip and convert to EFI which will save a TON of room!

Got everything installed today, I'll add some new pics.
