I wanted to start piecing toget a custom kit for a 99 civic ex 1.6 sohc, and was wondering if anyone wouldnt mind helping me out a bit. This will be the first kit that I have pieced together myself. Im looking to keep it around 2Grand.....any sugguestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think a T3 60 trim .60/.48 is about the perfect turbo for a stock d-series. I got mine off eBay brand new remanufactured for $310 shipped. The manifold is up to you (hf/adapter plater, log, drag, custom, etc...) some flow better than others and some are cheaper. You will probably have to have the downpipe custom made so everything will fit right. I would look into getting a custom coach or johnnyracecar intercooler if your on a budget and go to jcwhitney.com for mandrel bent piping. Check the classifieds here for oil lines. DSM 450cc injectors are cheap and will work well. I would also just get a 1g DSM bov since they work and are cheap. I would look into converting to obd1 so you can chip your ECU also. Proper tuning and good fuel management is the most important part of a turbo setup. I think a good clutch and 3 inch exhaust is a must when going turbo.

hmmm.... ill be sure to check that site for the piping. yea, ive been looking into the whole ecu conversion thing. any idea of which clutch to go with? and how much power do u think the stock one can handle. thanks

I went with an ACT xtss and it's holding up very well. I have no idea how much a stock clutch can hold. My stock clutch sucked *** and barely held when my car was N/A. I would defintely upgrade your clutch if you go turbo.

i have an ACT xtss and prolite flywheel on my 99ex and it's pretty badass. i was thinking about getting a sprung 6-puck though just to see how i like that.

oh and you can build a sweet kit for around 2G's.

my (sort of) junkyard kit should take about $1300 to get running. i hope to have the thing off the stands and getting tuned within the next week or so. this is the stuff ive purchased so far:
$100- T25 with the dsm O2 housing (a friend with lots of extra dsm parts)
$30- HF manifold (ef-honda classifieds)
$75- steathmode oil line kit (steathmode, duh)
$50ish- BMC adaptor plate (bmc racing, duh)
$30- chipping supplies (digikey, installed for free by a friend)
$150- dsm SMIC and assorted 2.5" mandrel bends/straights in aluminized steel. (dsmtrader)
$100- dsm 450s, bov, water lines (parted out 1g dsm)
~$100 assorted couplers, straight radiator hose, clamps, napa o-ring kit. (road race engineering, napa)
$200- dell lattitude ls laptop (for datalogging) (ebay)
$60 vdo boost, oil pressure and oil temp gauges (ebay)
$20- fasteners and stuff (hardware store)

pretty much the major thing left is the plx m300. if anyone knows a place thats cheaper than 310ish shipped, LET ME KNOW!!! ill probably be ordering one next week.

there's some other stuff, mostly labor related (i have free access to a tig, mill, and plasma cutter) that is helping to bring the cost of some of this stuff down.

I could tell you how to do your kit, but i don't know what type of performance your looking for. How much hp, reliablity. Your going to get a lot of different ideas from ppl here so you really should look around on the site in the faq section and the home page. That's how i learned and i'm still learning. Some idea i have you might not like so you have to know what you want. Just remember the fuel management is one of the MOST important part of your kit.

YOu could make a nice kit for under 1000. If I had 2g's to spend on a kit I'd spend like 500-800 for the turbo stuff and the rest on a building up the engine(rods,pistons, etc...) 2g's is a lot to work with. My mind is just drifting off dream of that much to work with.....ahhhh two thousand dollars....ahhhhh
