Default CRX intercooler question

First, Let me say hello to the entire HMT group. I look forward to being a part of this forum.

Heres the question.....

Ok so I've looked through about 60 or 70 posts and read all hat I could before posting this, I even did a search of the site, so hopefully I don't get flamed here.

Are there any fmic's that will fit in the space that exists between the rad and the bumper crap without any modification to the car? The reason I ask is that my ride is perfectly stock cosmetically, and I don't want to cut any framework when installing the fmic.

Ideally, I would like to not have to cut the bumper plastics either. However, cutting plastic won't break my heart. Im looking to build a car that attracts as little attention as possible.

Options?

i used a johnny racecar 5 inch on my 90 dx hatch, if you put a piece of black mess or paint it black it wont be noticable, but you are gonna be hacking your bumper quite a bit. starion intercoolers are a lot smaller than the JRc ones, you can always get a dsm SM and modify the end tanks to make it work with out cutting

what is a dsm sm? I do know what dsm stands for, and althought the starion was never offered here to my knowledge, (mitsu came here around 2000) I do have access to US sources for parts. A good friend of mine uses a starion intercooler with re-worked tanks, but cut the ---- out of his front end.

Without starting multiple threads, do you know of anywhere I could see pics of any various options installed?

thx!

this is a ford probe intercooler,

this is a dsm side mount intercooler

the probe one would be alot easier to work with i think, if you sat it vertical in front of your radiator (do you have the full length radiator?) and had the entanks re welded how ever works the best, that could work without cutting it think, jsut pick one and start making it fit

I agree the probe i/c looks like it will work with minimal modification. Thanks for taking the time to find examples and reply!

DSM SM means DSM side mount intercooler. It was just infront of the... well USDM passanger side front wheel.

I personally don't know anyone that has installed a IC without modifications. But get out your tape measure and creaper and try to pull some numbers and match them to IC sizes. While your down there, try and visualize how a turbo could be mounted and where the pipes would run without modifying bumper and avoiding obsticles (rad, fan,frame...) Seeing your car up close and personal will give you a much better feel for what your working with. You may need to remove some of the plastic guards from under the bumper.
