crankcase pressure
 
I have my turbo on for a week now. I have noticed smoke coming from my breather filter on the valve cover. Tonight I noticed I have been blowing out my dipstick out of the tube. What could be causing this? Is it bad for the motor? It never did this without the tuurbo.
I have replaced the PCV valve also.

Do a compression test. My bet is broken ring landings. It will always smoke out of the breather with broken ring lands because the boost is blowing by the pistons into the crankcase which is why you are blowing out your dipstick also. Sorry. :'(

Wht do you mean by ring landings, and is this going to be a expensive fix?

The ring landings are the material between each piston ring. On stock pistons they are very weak and any little bit of detonation will usually break them. As far as expense, pistons usually go anywhere from $350 to about $500. You can get good deals if you look around real good. You can build the motor in the car. Just pull the head and drop the oil pan. Depending on mileage of your car you will probably have to hone the cylinders at least.

High crankcase pressures are normal for any boosted car running high RPM's, that is why it is essential to have the necessary evacuation system, with either a beefed up PCV system, or a seperate catch can setup. (Or both)

u dont need new pistons. just replace the rings and hone the cylinders. hehe fun fun

same problem I've been bugging on in the hybrid post, the only difference is I'm not boosted yet, beefed up pcv system, how?

catch can hooked up properly and a breather filter on your valve cover. and a new pcv valve.

how would you hook up a catch can? i had one on my old b18a, but there isn't one on my b18b. it looked like it had a hose directly under the pcv valve (on the intake runner) and then it had another hose going back into the block???? do you have to tap into your block?? and now my pcv valve is on the valve cover

The # 1 and 3 cylinders are at 90, and the 2 and 4 cylinder are at 160. Yeh, it is screwed up, now the motor will be pulled tomorrow. Can te stock rods hold up to about 12psi?

the answer to your question depends on what you're using for fuel management and how well it's tuned. Most of us on here know that the stock D rods can hold 15 psi if tuned properly, but I'm keeping mine below 8 just for the sake of my 183k mile a6 motor.

try a search on www.honda-tech.com theres about a billion posts on breather smoke.

btw i hope you didnt have the stock pcv system in place. when you boost the valve closes and your crankcase pressure has no where to go but back up. that would suck as at the least all you needed to do was unplug it. welp live and learn..

so on my boosted d15b7 i should un plug the pcv valve so it vents to the atmosphere rather then back in to the intake manifold. I have the breather hose from the valve cover hooked up to the intake side of the turbo.

first youd need to plug the intake manifold, then ya you can just run it open or have some kind of check valve system or just run it to the intake of the turbo like the other.
im gonna try and do a check system with multiple pcv valves so i get the suction at vacuum as well as ventilation during boost.

Would it blow oil into te turbo inlet and ruin it? Or it was left open, it would spray oil everywhere?

the inside of the valve cover's design won't allow oil to "splatter" it's way out...
