Cracks around the wastegate hole


Are these cracks in the exhaust housing normal? or is it bust?

 

normal especially if its a older turbo or its a t3 i have seen and heard about alot of those being cracked

 

is it still useable?

 

Normal. I dont think I've pulled one off and not had cracks. You'll be fine

 

Look in the inlet of the exhaust housing, as long as there isn't a big crack showing threw you will be fine. The only ones that don't crack like that are the Volvo units, I don't know why.

 

My volvo one didn't crack around the WG, it cracked from inside the turbine wheel area..

 

Was it the Garrett or the Mitsubishi?

 

both mitsubishi turbos i have owned have looked like that

 

garrett .42/.48 turbo in my case..

 

Since I decided to turbo my D I have pulled 8 turbos(t3) off of Saabs and Volvos and they have all had verry bad cracks.They were mainly in the exhaust inlet but some had cracks like that picture.Now Im just going to buy a new one couse I dont think Ill find a used one thats not cracked!
