Default cost of downpipe

i went to the local muffler shop and the said that the downpipe for my T25 would be inbetween $100 to $200 buck. I was thinking 100 at the most. this is even without a flex section. does that sound kinda pricy?

for the welding, fabrication, mandrel bent material (i hope), and labour it doesnt sound bad

But Im sure you could easily grab one off of here used, with a small flex section for under $125

Price doesnt sound to horrible though

thats just it. Its going to be a 2.5 crush bend with no flex section. They said the hardest would be welding a piece for the wastegate to the main exhaust. Im going to go up there tommoro and ask them how much it would cost for them just to do the bottom part. then ill get crafty with a grinding wheel or something and make a piece to get that covered.

Has anyone here ever used an arc welder for doing charge pipes/exhaust? Harbor Freight has one on sale for $80. I'm thinking about picking it up just for the hell of it.

110/220v Arc Welder

That or this one:

Flux Mig Welder

And for extra ultra supercoolosity:

Auto Dark Welding Helm with Flamer Decals

if i had no choice but to pork out $100-$150 for just a down pipe i'd buy a cheap $140. gasless welder and weld my own downpipe and charge pipe. a local welder fabricator guy who also made mt manifold charged me $100 for my charge pipes welding, oil pan welding, wastegate bracket, and down pipe. you're better off buying a welder to be honest with you.

exhuast tubing is pushing it with a 115V welder. Although they say it can 'weld up to 0.250" ' it will definitely not give a good penetration past 1/8" If you are going to spend money, might as well spend a little bit more to get a nice gas 220 mig. You can not seriously beat a Lincoln or Miller 180. Get a cylinder of gas and your set. FYI, flux cored wire sucks ***. And if you ever take something to get repared and it was flux cored to begin with, you have to grind it all out PITA. for $800 you can get a 220v 180A Miller with tank of gas, mask, gloves, wire and be set for the next 25 years. You might say, 'I dont have a 220'. Combine 2 of your 110/115 circuits in your garage fuse panel to get 220/230 and buy a outlet. Directions are easily found on the web.

As for the downpipe. People don't work cheap. Most welding shops charge 60-75 an hour with a 50 minimum. Put in an hour of tube fab and hour of welding (conservative) you've got yourself $150. Plus they usually screw you anways and add another 50 for ***** and giggles if its not someone you know. You can get the piping for $20 and flex for $30-40. Put together 20 dp's and sell them for $100 and you've made back the money you spent on the welder.
