Correct way to connect an oil cooler

I'm going to buy an oil cooler from a Volvo for $10 so i need to know if this is the correct way to connect it, heres a pic attached.
Also need no know the best way to clean the dirty oil from inside. And finally, need to know if i can use the stock fuel pump from that old Volvo turbo |

I've never hooked an oil cooler up but that "diagram" seems legible to me, Find out the specifications on that fuel pump then compare to your factory one, your looking for LPH numbers.

why do you want to cool the oil going into your turbo which heats it up again? dont you want to cool your engines oil for your engine? thought you were supposed to hook them up between an external oil filter adapter..

You need an external oil filter setup cause d or b series blocks don't have any spots to pull and send oil to a oil cooler. Yeah you could run it like a turbo setup and from your the back of your block to your oil pan but don't oil coolers also lower your oil pressure a bit? I remember on my 86 when people disconnected the stock oil coolers it bumped up their oil pressure and not to use the stock oil cooler setup on 20V engines cause they like honda engines strive on oil pressure with their VTC and VTEC setups and would actually lower their oil pressure using a oil cooler.

this is how I setup my turbo oil cooler. I routed from an oil adapter to the front of the radiator. It does drop the oil pressure a little bit but then again you dont' have to run a oil restricter.. ;) I am still running this setup for almost 2 years now.

how about use a free port on your block fitting or sandwhich adapter to send oil through a cooler. then return it to the pan through its own drain or somthin . maybe that idea sucks im half asleep

What a waste to dump it back into your oil pan. I'd say route from the back of the block to the turbo. Cool oil for a turbo is never a bad thing.

Yeah on mine, that'S exactly what I am doing, oil comes from the stock oil sensor location, goes to a cooler and then to the turbo. This is not enough to significantly cool down the engine oil but gives the turbo some fresh and viscous oil.
i also installed an engine oil cooler and for that, you need much bigger hoses. Mine are 3/8". For cheap, you can get at summit a ol filter relocation kit allowing to install the filter anywhere. if you get one of those, you can simpy strech the hose and include your cooler in the circuit. Here'S some pictures. The blue thing is the turbo cooler, and the small silver one on the passenger side right behind it is the engine cooler. cooler example #1 cooler example #2 |

No, that sandwich adaptor is nice but it's only 1/8 NPT holes. it's good for vtec heads, oil gauges and turbos.

yeah yeah, we are on the same page.
For a turbo oil cooler, it's perfect. it's even overkill since just the basic "T" fitting from any turbo oil kit will do the same exact thing. Just don't believe it does any good to your engine oil temp. |
