In the typical fashion of an HMT build, my manifold is hacked like mad and warped like a bastard. I had the flange resurfaced and it still leaks. I'm currently using the thin steal gasket that Garrett sends with the turbos (same one ATP and most people sell). I tried using a heavy coat of orange RTV, but it simply blew out after the first pull. The gasket is simply too thin. Does anyone know where I can't buy a gasket that is thicker than that one micron thin pile of douche that Garrett calls a gasket. I was trying to find a thick copper one like people use for exhaust manifold gaskets, but I'm not having any luck.

Any one sell a thick T3 gasket or am I going to have to cut my own?

Fel-pro makes blank exhaust gasket material that you can cut to fit...most auto shops would carry it.

And as Tyler already knows that will just burn up. Tyler if the flange is straight and the turbo is as well the problem may be the bolts loosening up. Lock washers and put some sack into it while tightening.

dont use spring type lockwashers, they dont work with extreme heat, it draws the temper out of them, you need to get serrated lockwashers etc... And make sure your flanges are flat. If youre flanges are perfectly flat you shouldnt even need a gasket at all

That's what I can't understand. The turbo is definately straight, its brand new and it's not SSAC trash. The flange was just resurfaced. The bolts are as tight as I can possibly get them. It's very hard to get a good angle to turn the allen wrench. Maybe I'll switch to normal bolts that I can get a socket on.

But for some reason, the entire back side of the turbine between the two rear bolts will NOT seal. Even with a fresh ATP/Garrett style steal gasket and a serious coat of RTV it leaks right at the first start or after the first pull when the RTV blows out. It's almost like the rear bolts aren't pulling up the back of the turbine when tightened. As soon as it cools off I'm going to go out there and see if I can slide a sheet of paper (or how many sheets) into the gap, if there is one.

I'm running out of ideas though, why wouldn't two flat surfaces seal...

i found this stuff it looks kinda like that metalic crap you can put in your radiator, but its made for exhaust manifolds and it supposed to weld it self or seal when it gets hot, the hoter the stronger, i had a beat up t3 flange i spead it on there like peanut butter (thin layer) and let it sit over night. no leaks

my roomate just made a dp gasket outta a few layers of thin aluminum sheet from lowes in the roofing section. holds good so far. he also used coppercoat.

you could make it as thick as you wanted. cheap as hell too.
