coolant cooled instead of water cooled?

Hey, has anyone used coolant instead of water for the water cooled turbos? Or is it even possible? Or how about Freon cooled fromn the air conditioning?

Re:coolant cooled instead of water cooled?

Your best bet is to just lube up the bearing section with jello pudding. Chocolate seems to be the best. Put it in there and then use two threaded bolts to seal the inlet/outlet. That's the way I run it and it hasn't given me any problems yet. ;)

sure that wasnt doodoo butter?

Re:coolant cooled instead of water cooled?

No, that was cocoa butter, but it didn't work as good as JP. ;)

i like to keep it ghetto and use dirt from my yard

Re:coolant cooled instead of water cooled?

Yep I've tried the dirt method myself and it works fairly good. you just have to make sure you pick out all the nightcrawlers and worms before starting your engine. Save them for a fishing trip or something :)

are u guys serious about the dirt?

sounds like it could work

Re:coolant cooled instead of water cooled?

dirt does work.. i know something better and it gives off a good smell of your choice!

put some chew (tobacco) in there and depends on what flavor you got but it'll smell that that everytime you start up and drive!!! berry blend is my favorite!

You guys are being assholes!

Here is what I did to water cool my turbo.

I bought a fuel cell from summit.I installed another radiator in front of my stock one.I ran lines from the now ater cell to the radiator. Then I went from the radiator to the turbo.I used my winshield washer reservoir pump to feed the water to the turbo. Its been running great!

Hope this helps

Jeez, such jackasses. It was just a suggestion. Thought it would be a good idea. That windshield wiper reservoir thing sounds like a good idea. I would've never thought of that. How about if you wanna clean your windshields while your driving though?

Re:coolant cooled instead of water cooled?

I don't understand the extra radiator and fuel cell thing d16. What does that do?

tranceminister 05-15-2004 10:21 PM

Re:coolant cooled instead of water cooled?

Yeah d16... Since we are all quote "assholes" maybe you can let us all in on this ingenious cooling solution :)

am i being made fun of if im prepping dirt right here as we speak???

Re:coolant cooled instead of water cooled?

Hey i'm not poking fun of anyone for using the dirt. like I said I've used it before and it had good cooling results. It's not like the stuff burns or boils, it stay's cool enough so that the internal temperatures of the center section stay right about where they should. can't make fun of that.

damn i love these cheap ass working ideas

thx guys

Coolant as in ethylene glycol (green sweet stuff that kills kitties)?

Just so you know, pure water has MUCH better heat displacement than coolant. You only put coolant in to raise the boiling point and lower the freezing point. So, running more coolant than water is worse than straight water.

Did you read what you wrote?

You say water is better for heat displacement but you need to add the glycol to make it even better. So how is water better than coolant again? ::)

Steve ,I was joking ;).That water contraption is non-existant!

Alright, then how about the freon, freezing cold air

leaky freon tastes great

A higher ratio of water to coolant keeps things cooler. But your environment will dictate what the best ratio is. No Prestone for me. I use water wetter & Distilled water. Dropped my engine temp a little.

wow...breaker...water=coolant. your motor has a water pump, and pumps coolant

i thought it was a bunch of mice running on wheels that made my engine spin

Cooling center sections is over-rated ;)

Raf I knew you were kidding. I couldn't explain it to the poor kid so I thought you could try and do it better ;)

haha, I thought he was serious. :-[

I can't see freon working very well. What kind of crazy system are you going to have to run that ----? You would need to convert your entire A/C system into a "turbo cooler" and even then I doubt it would work. That turbo gets ------- hot. I can't see a nice frozen shot of freon hitting a 1200 degree turbo being very nice. :-X

heat displacement. lol

its also an oxygen scavenger so u dont get rust going on, on your sleeves..
