Converting internal to external wg
I need as much space possible to keep my a/c on my car and have tried to save space using an external wastegate. My turbo has an internal wastgate already. what do i do to use an external? Is it just unbolt internal and im done or do i have to do something else? Thanks

you have to take off the wg housing with the flapper that you dp is coming off of and use a 'block off flange' and fabricate your dp off of that. your manifold also has to be able to accept an external wg....

first off, what turbo are you running?
on a 12a/t25/15b/16g i have welded the wastegate flapper shut for a few people. you can use the stock O2 housing and down pipe. you can remove the wategate actuator.
these were on STD manifolds, we just welded external gates straight to the cast STD manifolds.

I don't see how this would save any space at all. replacing something the size of this...

I have limited space where my turbo is going to sit but i have extra space on the top. Even a little thing like the internal wg will be enough to make my turbo not fit and possibly hit the block or a/c fan. i am pretty sure you dont replace the external wg where the internal one went. Im running a t3 in a b16 del sol with a/c. i am willing to fork out a little more cash in order to make this work.

bmc racing makes them, just email them and tell them you need a 5 bolt exhaust flange for a t3. they also sometimes have them on ebay. actually, i have an extra one at the house, pm me if you're interested.

It saves a crapload of space when going to external wg. That is exactly what I did. Remember folks when you have to retain your a/c the only way to mount the turbo is to have the comressor side/dp on the drivers side of the veh. when mounting the turbo this way the internal wg actuator hits the fan because it is on the front of the turbo. Also when you use a block-off flange you gain an extra 2 inches of space for a downpipe. That flapper assembly is a big fat bitch! With a typical HMT setup most don't keep a/c and its not as big of a challenge. Anything besides a greddy or Edelbrock kit requires a tad more work to keep the a/c and still be able to use a decent sized diameter dp.
