Compression on D before turbo

Just a quick poll of turbo D guys...

What compression numbers were you putting down before turbo, and how much boost are you successfully running?

ALso if you had any problems with this, specify

Thanks!

Re:Compression on D before turbo

boom? haha

then again, that is a d15b.... any D16'ers out there?

Whats the stock compression ratio on a d15b7?

Re:Compression on D before turbo

cool, but doesnt a mini me make pretty high compression?

still looking for a full D16, I have a Y8 looking to make a direct comparison.

Re:Compression on D before turbo

Re:Compression on D before turbo

D16 comp is in the low 9:1 range

Re:Compression on D before turbo

that does not help me. I am asking for actual numbers from people who went turbo. Looking to figure out what is safe.

Umm, the D15b7 is MPFI for starters, and it is around 9.1:1 compression, not 9.7

lol...i know it will go after a while. i dont care. it actually still runs. i thought it blew but it was the rotor in the dizzy. it pretty much blew apart for some reason. maybe because it has 183k miles on it :-X oh well. i jb welded it back together and now it runs like ass. i think my timing is way out in left field.

Re:Compression on D before turbo

I went turbo twice and never blown the engine one ZC and one D15B2 with MPFI swap...both had about 190 psi all across. the D15B2 took 15 psi daily for two month;'swith the same turbo I used on the ZC. Sold the car with the D15B2...got rear ended.
I blew my first block this week and it was NA...sucked

Re:Compression on D before turbo

mine is a z6 180psi across the board runing uberdata 4.5 psi for now untune but it pull great on the teo4h but the turbo kinda flow like ---- with the hf manifold

Semnos 07-07-2004 12:49 PM

Re:Compression on D before turbo

That turbo is ---- not the manifold

Re:Compression on D before turbo

IS that so ? im going with the saab t3 now since the stupid turbo gave out on me last night i was hitting 5 psi then it drop all the boost and after that my turbo sound like ---- it sound like it rubing the compressor :-\ or the exhaust side and it spool slower now i havn't taking it apart yet

Re:Compression on D before turbo

I'm going to be doing a Compression test on my D16Z6 this week before my turbo kit arives so I will surely post the results for you to check out OK. I have 202,000km's on my engine just FYI. Check the box to be notified about this topic and I'll reply after I have it done.

Re:Compression on D before turbo

Mine was STOCK D16a6 at 205, 205, 205, 205 before turbo + can of restore at 176k miles.

1 year later (over 10k miles) of experimental boost, it's now at 150, 150, 150, 150. I was pretty stupid even though I had a safe setup because my dist timing was off and I was getting detonation that I didn't know about for 1 year even though I had turboedit tunned good. I think my motor had a little carbon buildup (explains the high numbers), but now it's lower because I'm spraying with water inj.

Re:Compression on D before turbo

whats the compression ratio on the a6?

how much boost were you running? and what i really wanna know, is how did you NOT know you were detonating?

Re:Compression on D before turbo

d16a6 c/r is 9.1:1 i believe.

s1ngle 07-12-2004 10:59 PM

Re:Compression on D before turbo

wow 205 is nuts high for 9.1

zeadlots 07-15-2004 12:03 AM

Re:Compression on D before turbo

Well here is is:

Car had 204,000km's I just had a 16 hour road trip so there is going to be no carbon.

155,150,160,165

Re:Compression on D before turbo

My exhaust was loud and I never would have heard it. After I rigged a 2.5" muffled exhaust I could hear detonation and I soon tunned it properly.

Re:Compression on D before turbo

woo wooo!

Well, i just did another compression check on my own car, now since the weather is nice, and i am at lower altitude, and heres what i got:

190 190 191 191

I think i am ------- set to go for turbo. Those are damn good numbers.
