Completed SBC HMT (pics)
Well tonite, me and ted put on a different turbo than the big T4 on the Trailerpark SBC 283 (refer to this thread)

Here are the turbos in the back of teds truck. Left-right 1st turbo is a .60/.63 Tbird turbo that we are borrowing from turbohf (dustin) Thanks again. Middle turbo is the T4 I took from a dumptruck. We already tried using this turbo and it didnt work out very well. It was just way to big, and only spooled 3psi. The next turbo is a CT26 Toyota supra Turbo.
Here is Ted doing a fine job with the coat hanger (welding) the homemade carb Bonnet.
We finally got the Mig welder working at PNK, so we layed a nice fatty bead on the T3 flange (over the T4 flange)
Shot of the HMT Bonnet, We had lots of little leaks at first but with about 9 coat hangers we got this sucker all welded up.
there were some small leaks, but thats ok. We call that "boost management"
You can see the Upper charge piping in this pic, once again all with the Coat hanger welding skills. and using mandrel 2.5in Pipe.
The plug off the back is for the blow off valve.
thanks to Craig @ tuner toyz for the great oil return flange, we also found a fitting in teds garage off a external oil relocation kit, worked perfect for the drain.
Sporting the jap Apexi Boost Gauge on the American Muscle car.
heres a shot of the beast in front of teds garage. Its a 68 Chevy 1/2 ton Short Bed pickup (fleetside)
for 250 bucks, you better watch out for this sleeper!

Still needs an intercooler!

You can see the custom shield ted made (as he cut out his fenderliner) to guide the exhaust out of the engine bay.
Overall, This thing still needs alot of tuning. Our first test drive was pretty cool, It spools incredibly fast (the wastegate opens at 10psi) Fuel is the main concern right now since its using a stock fuel pump which will be later upgraded to a electronic bosch pump w/ regulator / adjustable fmu/ fuel return line. Ted also has a MSD 6BTM for spark control.
the 10psi of boost was over-riding the fuel pump pushing it back into the tank (since the base fuel pressure is 8psi)

Just went down an put some supper unleaded in it an wow 2.19 a gallon DAMNNN..Anyway i got some fuel it in after i passed 2 cops an one was pulling out of the station as i was pulling in.Thought for sure i was gonna get pulled over due to no exhaust just off the turbo with a heat sheild to direct it to the fenderwell.No cops time to take her up the freeway on ramp for a run.Yes jeff it running out of fuel as long as i keept it below 8psi she kept pulling.Lil bit sluggish out of the hole but get rpms up above 2k an pulls up to 5500 then 2nd gear an tires dont hold her.Walks a lil an then away you go but fuel now on the low side so time to back out.Yes low budget turbo setup but i have been collecting parts for awhile now an thats one i aquired from a friend in a trade.Just thought it wasanother boost gauge .Will get the fuel system dialed in an hopefully get a few vids of it running.later all

Good job on the install, needs some work but you are making nice progress.
You don't really see a stock snorkel intake turned into a boost friendly bonnet that often, hope it works out for you. Often times people just fabricate their own and ride with it, there are also many after market bonnets avail.
For the problem you are having feeding the beast gas at full boost, have you looked into boost referencing the stock fuel pump? Unless you are planning on some insane boost levels, the stock should hold for moderate usage.. all ya need is JB Weld.
Check this site out for some info on boost referencing, might save you from buying an expensive fuel pump/regulator:

Also what are you doing about enriching that holly carb at high boost/rpm? Replace the secondaries or what? If you have spare parts from a NOS fogger you could always run fuel in it using a Hobbs switch to turn on under boost (or just a plain ole fuel injector would work). I know you have a lot of fuel management work ahead of you (hope to see an EGT or 02 sensors too) but keep us posted, let me know if I can help

I like it !!! Time to start towing stuff ( LIKE HOUSES ). You should look into a Volvo intercooler, if you live near by me, I'd say "pick it up and its free" but its too big of a hassle to ship...
I thought more was involved in turboing a carb, but guess not... I'd like to do it one day ( 351 powered fox body stang with HMT ).

In reference to the web site been there thanks for the info
I beleive the fuel pump needs to be change to an electric because i need 5psi per pound boost which at this point is 50 psi plus 8 for normal running psi.I have been on the yahoo blowthrough group for a year an have followed all there build up an read many articles they have on carb modifications.I cut the choke horn off an jb welded the linkage hole an drilled the (pvcr)power valve orfice to 3/32.
Drilled the air cleaner stud to 3/8 instead of 5/16.An the bonnet is yes a factory air cleaner welded shut with the factory extension housing on it from a van/truck Pull apart special 8.00.... Carb bonnet 150 bones ill spend the savings on a better fuel system.Got the fuel system handled just need to do the installation.All i can say is that the trailer park 283 doesnt smoke an at 7.1 compression i think it can handle 15 psi
.Time for a boost controller.

good to see you already know more then I do and have been planning this thing for a year+ now.
if I was going base budget style I think I would run the boost referenced high flow mechanical fuel pump with regulator, but you got your system going on so it's all good. Time will tell if I end up boosting a sbc, probably not my current one - reliability and low end is the key(nothing like breaking down in the middle of the woods miles away from home that requires 4 wheel drive).
If you factory snorkel holds well for ya, keep it.. I might be able to find some info on fabbing a decent looking one if you are insterested. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.
