Clutch slave cylinder in the way??
 
Hello,
I am almost done getting the parts together to boost by 1994 del sol Si but it looks like I might run into a large problem. My turbo and manifold shoed up today so I popped the hood and started sizing things up. I am using a drag cast manifold and the turbo is a t3/to4e its a .50/.63 with a .70 compressor housing. I don't know that I will actually end up using this turbo or not, it is a bit too big, but several people on this site have told me to run it, it'll lag a bit but be worth it in the end. Anyhow, I can't start taking the car apart yet because I use it to get to and from work so I was just looking and holding parts about were it looks like they will end up being located. Its not exact since the old mani is still inplace but I think I have a real good idea how things will look once it is done. The only problem I found is what looks like the clutch master cylinder (I'm kind of new to Hondas but I'm about sure that is what it is) is going to get in the way of the air filter, or the plumbing to the compressor inlet if I don't just clamp a filter to the turbo. The compressor housing does have a large diameter, but I don't think it is much longer than other turbos I have seen installed. Has anyone else seen had this issue when boosting a d16z6? It might not be an issue at all once I actually have the old mani off and get the parts in the actual locations and not just what it looks like right now, but it does look like it could be a problem unless I have everything shfited to the passenger side by about 4-6 inches. If it is, how can I deal with it. the master cylinder looks excessively long, is there a part of another car that is a bit shorter that can be used? Thanks guys. Here is some porn for you and please let me know if this is even something I need to worry about. If it is in the way of the filter, I can use a 90deg elbow and then mount the filter somewhere else, right? I just don't know if they make very much plumbing in 4" which is what the compressor inlet flange size is. Again, thank you and enjoy the hotties.

simple solution: dont run a fiter :1

if your so worried about your ching chong turbo sucking up ---- just put some screen over the inlet.

That's it? Dont run a filter? Ok what is a "ching chong turbo"

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you deal with it? Thank you

I don't have a filter on my 14b, if you care. A guy I knew went 2-3 years with a Blowzilla (expensive ass turbo at the time) unfiltered daily driven and never had an issue: http://cheapturbo.stores.yahoo.net/hocid16sous.html His last E.T. I think was 11 flat. Unfortunately he passed away about a year ago, Brian was a cool dude :'(

It's not that I don't care, it's that I have been in the powertrain testing and development feild for a while and just can't imagin an engine having very good leakdown after running 20-30K miles without a filter. Think about all that sand and crap stuck to an old filter when you change it. That stuff would have made it into the motor. Pistons and rings and cylinder walls, and valve stems and guides don't like sand and stuff. Since I'm new to turbos, I can't say how well they woudl live with that stuff getting digested by then, but I would guess they son't much like it either.

Right now I'm thinking about swaping the comp housing and turbin for something a bit smaller untill I build up something that needs that big of a turbo, then swap it back and have everything rebalanced again. I won't have anymore money untill tax time so what the hell does it matter. I could very well flip this car and burn it to the ground before then. Thanks for you input.

I dont know about you but I live in New Hampshire and we got a lot of sand and salt on the roads. Im running screen and a filter... :6 Make an S pipe or some other flex piping and slap some screen on the turbo inlet and a filter on the end of the pipe/flex pipe. Make sure your screen and filter are secure dont wanna suck the screen in. :8
