Default cleaning my new manifold?

there is a bunch of rust and gooey ---- inside my manifold (I just got it today) I want to clean her up and make her pretty but I would assume water would have adverse effects (on cast iron) when I get the turbo in I would assume I don't want small particles flying through it. any suggestions on how to clean it up? maybe even prep it for some high temp paint?

see all the crap in there?

Is that an HF manifold? If so, mine didn't come with those brackets. Do I need those

wire brush and some brake part cleaner will do the job don't bother with the paint because it will burn right off unless profesionally done.

Yes, use a wire brush to take so of that rust off.

And

Those brackets are use to support the manifold and the factory cat to the d15 block. I'm not sure if any other engine has holes to bolt those 2 in. In any case not neccesary.
