cleaning engine block...internally...
i have a ls block that's been in a body shop and its dusty all in the inside...as in with the oil pan off its all dusty inside...how should i go about cleaning it up before installing it...should i use brake parts cleaner then wd40? or will that stuff mess up the bearings or something?

Take it to a machine shop and have it hot tanked.

Spray it on, lightly hit it with a brass brush, hose it off.
It will EAT alum. if left on to soak. The motor had 160k on it, oil changed every 4500-5000 miles. Only problem those miles were all short trips and engine never reallly warmed up. I'll get pictures of one the rods when I clean them tonight. |
