Default Choose my turbo. :) Garrett or Precision :)

I hope some people can shine some light on which turbo would be better for my application

I'm running it in my STOCK B16a3 engine with a piece it together kit. I'm kinda wanting a street turbo with decent spool and decent power up top. I really don't have a HP # I'm shooting for but anywhere in the 225-250 whp range would make me happy. I really only plan to run 7 psi daily on the motor.

Setup will be a basic Drag gen III manifold. custom 2.5" downpipe, Johnny RaceCar 30x8x3 intercooler for the main components.

At first, I was thinking about a garrett T3/T4 48 ar rear with a 57 trim compressor.
Then, I started to look around..

I've been searching around for dynocharts, etc etc and talking to people with prior experience..Someone recommended that I checked out the Precision GT3255 turbo. He also suggested that I not get the 48 AR exhaust housing, that I go straight to a 63. His reasoning is the smaller 48 housing + the drag manifold will just cause too rapid spooling +for my setup.

I'm just torn on what to do. I DO have a spare B16 block with eagle H-beams w/small rod bolts. I plan on putting it together as a backup motor, along with getting some CP 9.0 81.5mm bore pistons on stock sleeves for later down the road (more as in IF something happened to the engine in my car right now)

Anyways. Sorry for the rambling
I guess I really have 2 main questions here:
1) would you pick a turbo with the 48 ar housing or 63 housing for my setup?
2) should I go with a regular Garrett or the Precision GT3255?

I thank you for taking the time to read this and hope you can clear up things for me

Hey whats up? Sounds like you'll have a hell of a project going on and once it's done you could be looking at over 250 if your tuned out well.
As far as spooling goes, I've run nothing but the .48 exhaust housing on all of my setups. It really doesn't spool all the early. Around 3000 is what Ive noticed. Though with the larger exhaust housing you will be looking at a bit more lag, but at least you've got the top end rev to make up for it. So, the spool up is really up to personal prefference. Some like a quick early spool, and some like the larger dogs of turbo's that give a big kick in the *** feeling once they start building boost.
And between the 2 turbo's I'd personally go with the Garret T3/T4. I think it's a great all around type of turbo and will probably cost a bit less than the Precision will. Once again though I guess it's all up to whatever your looking to spend and what you expect out of this setup.
good luck and we want some dyno numbers or even some footage in action when your all done Steve

Oh, I'll post the dyno #s Just you wait, probably be a couple months from now until I have everything. Just awaiting to purchase the turbo, waiting for the intercooler to come in.

And sending out my DSM 450s to get cleaned/balanced.

I think I am gonna go with the garret with the 48 ar rear. That precision GT isn't a ball bearing anyways, why spend extra $ for it if it's not BB... Yea, bigger turbo, "PRECISION", and more efficient wheel.

Hope I pick the right one

you should get the bigger turbine. It wont spool as fast, but it'll hold power a lot longer. btw, do you still have the hondata or are you using something else? William told me all you dudes are turboing your cars.. i told him to get his *** in gear and get the LS hatch turbo'd asap :P

Trust me, I'm still debating everything.

As far as hondata, I sold it with my old EF JRSC setup. I guess some guy out in California bought it and took it out there. I haven't seen that car in a year or so. Dang I miss it 13 second car to 17 second car = BORING At least the B16 in the 4 door now runs 15.1s. a little better than 17s the stock d15b7 would have probably put out

Get a Precision SC34...
GT wheel s much better ... those T4B wheels and T4E wheel are from the 70's to 80's...old tech.
GT wheels are much more efficient...and a ballbearing turbo is ove 1G

for the psi u would be running i would go with the garrett t3/to4e. go with the .48ar exhaust. yes the precision is a much nicer turbo, but for what u are waunting i think the garrett will do u just fine.

I've decided. I'm going the the garrett. Other than that. found one on EBAY for 450 (or buy it now for 499) + 23 ship on a new polished Turbonetics 48 ar rear housing, 60 trim compressor. Brand new.

We'll see which one comes thru
