Chevy 307cid V8, Need help to design a low rpm turbo system

I'm trying to make a little Chevy 5.0 L engine act more like a 454 NA for one of our tow vehicles. The motor is set up for this with forged pistons, plasma moly rings gapped for blower; 8.5 to 1 compression, small chamber heads with good flow but cam is up for debate. I'd like to use a single turbo if possible for cost reasons.
Am thinking of using a wet flow system with switched water/methonal injection, and have some of the parts needed for that. The goal is to have noticable boost by 2000 rpm, full by 3800 and redline of 5500rpm.
Several local people tell me this can't be done but our 1983 Merceedes 300SD had a boost map like that without anything fancy on a 3.0L 5cyl diesel, and the V-8 Chevy has far more exhaust heat/flow than the car.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

sounds like a fun build. i think a t70 with t4 flange would be a great turbo for your application. i new someone who used this turbo on an s10 with a 4.3 and it spooled at 2500 rpm. you should meet your 2000 rpm boost goal with a v8 with this turbo. you can use the stock cam but a regrind with the overlap removed with do wonders.

As to cam, I found a custm ground flat tappet comp cams turbo cam, 203 degrees@.050 intake with 201@.050 exhaust, .434 intake lift, 445 exhaust on a 114 centerline at the flea market of a local show. It was slightly used in a 350 twin turbo with a holed piston, and the guy said allthough it pulled real hard from 1700rpm on, It didn;t have the mid-upper rpm rush he wanted, so $125 took it.
While I have some roots blower experience and know more about Vortec centrifical blower than I care to know about, my turbocharger knowledge about trim, AR ratio is nonexistant.
Thank You for the help!
Excuse me now, I need to find a book or disc to study.
