Cheapest engine management
What would be the cheapest way to get my car running off of boost without spending 1k - plus on cpu parts. I want to run a max of 7 psi on a 95 del sol vtec.
thanks |

Re:Cheapest engine management
300 is more than you can pick up a MSD btm and used afc for....
thats basically like what they use in the F-Max kits right? i heard alot of people ditching that setup but how do you feel it works? i think the cheapest possible without building your own controller would me the SMC+ for like 119 then a set of 450 cc injectors for 50 or less... this gives you fuel adjustment only in 1k increments and does nothing to control computer advanced timing in the upper rpms however so i wouldnt run this alone with high boost. ' with an FMU you also have to add a fuel pump so thats about 200 bux for both but isnt tunable except for changing the discs also i wouldnt go on any onld a/f ratio gauge alone, only use that as a base then get yourself on a dyno to tune with a wideband. very much worth the money.... |
Re:Cheapest engine management
Well if your car was OBD0, there is a current solution http://www.ghettodyne.com/
Supposedly in the next release (soon) it will be supporting boost... which kicks ass! And is the fuel mgmt setup I'll be using. -Henry |

Megasquirt sucks, a friend of mine runs it on his turbo Volvo, and another friend runs it on his turbo Rabbit GTI, neither has ever run right, and we've tuned the ---- out of both of them.
SDS is pretty much the middle. It's not as pricey as the TecIIs and TecIIIs, or any of the other high end stuff, but it works really well. The downfall is it doesn't do datalogging which is REALLY nice for tuning. Anything else costs to much. |

This is a rediculous statement.. Like any computer its only as good as the programmer setting it up! Mine works perfectly and holds steady at 14.1:1 Where do you see a problem in that? :D |
Re:Cheapest engine management
A friend of mine uses Perfect Power SMT-5.
It seems to work really well. There is a new SMT-6 out for a few month's now. Check it ou at http://www.perfectpower.com/wiring/MainMenu.asp |

Mine works perfectly and holds steady at 14.1:1 Where do you see a problem in that? :D I'm sure if you run MS you at least know of Wing Gee... the Wing diode is named after him. He's actually gotten his car to run fair with the MS.2 recently, and it ran ok with the original. That's not giving full credit though since Wing has gone though hell to make it run right (toasted a few ECU parts, a couple complete motors, bought a complete MSD setup because the MS didn't like the bosch stuff). He even set his car on fire when the injectors stuck open. Jesse's Volvo, on the other hand, has always run rich, either it runs good down low, and shitty up high, or shitty low, and good high. We were constantly tuning it, and it never ran well. Megatune is awesome software though, probably my favorite, and I think it has a lot of potential. The hardware still needs work. It relies a lot on the ------- behind the soldering iron/laptop, and I'll give MS credit for being the best price/product out there, and credit for being the cheapest, but although there are a few success stories(you, for instance) it is far from refined. |
