cheap ebay bov vs. dsm 1st gen?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2458171581

I'm thinking about ditching my 1st gen dsm bov for this ebay one. The guy is Canadian so there won't be any duty which is a bonus. I'm just wondering what you guys think. My friend has one and it looks half decent, and will probably sound good.

What's the deal with the "adjustability"? If you set it to soft does it open slower or something? Sounds like it might hurt something if it doesn't let the air out fast enough?

i wouldnt pay 70 bucks for a no-name bov. the adjustability sets the spring tension, letting the bov release with varrying amounts of vacuum, at least thats the way i always saw it. setting it too loose could also bleed boost possibly, too tight might keep it from blowing off at all

Why would you pay that when you own a better/cheaper one?

I'm not big on the style/sound of the dsm valves, that's all.

Re:cheap ebay bov vs. dsm 1st gen?

Yea, I know how to get around duty. Sometimes gift doesn't always work. You also have to get it shipped USPS because UPS charges an arm and a leg for brokerage.

I mark everything to Canada as a gift. Even if you don't ask for it. Dsm bov= cheap/effective ;)

I have that exact bov on my civic and it is mighty loud. I got it for free and I like it. If you are going for sound, than go for it. If you're going sleeper, look elsewhere.

also... i've seen these on websites going in the $150-$160 range, so you're by no means getting ripped.

there's an easy way around that you know.. put the BOV between the IC and the MAF

Re:cheap ebay bov vs. dsm 1st gen?

I also have that BOV. I didnt think it was too loud though (but then again I have never heard another BOV). The spring is a litle harsh for what I was running (8psi). It chattered when it blew, which to my knowledge means that it isnt opening all the way. I ended up taking the spring out and cutting a turn and a half off of it. Now (not screwed in tightly) I get a nice calm BOV whoosh. I am thinking of tightening it a bit to see if it makes it a little crisper.

Mines chattered too when I had it teed with my evap crap... I ended up just connecting it straight to the manifold (for other reasons) and it stopped... I kinda liked that noise though

Re:cheap ebay bov vs. dsm 1st gen?

It was a cool noise, just not the one I wanted to hear. I called it the rattlesnake ;D

youre right sohcrxsi...but a lot of people do it without big problems

and by chatter, do you guys mean backspool, where the bov is too tight and doesnt blow off? because thats how i would describe that sound

Re:cheap ebay bov vs. dsm 1st gen?

That BOV looks like a rip off of a Turbo XS. I was never really a fan of those style BOV's becuase compared to other BOV's they are real quiet and I personally think they aren't able to move as much air as some of the other BOV's out there

Re:cheap ebay bov vs. dsm 1st gen?

man... I must have got a good one cus I piss people off by blowing off on them on the freeway... meaning, you can hear my Blow Off on the freeway... meaning its pretty g-d loud... and by chatter, I mean the rattle snake noise deacon is talking about

I don't have a videotape, but dude... it goes psssshh just like every other namebrand/aftermarket bov... more boost = louder psssshhh.... It's good and you'll be happy with it. Give it a try and stop being so ----... if you don't like it, sell it!

Stan 02-07-2004 02:53 PM

Re:cheap ebay bov vs. dsm 1st gen?

I suppose that's true. I just want it to do it's job, with the addition of a nice sound but at 8-10psi.
