Charge pipe size
 

What diameter charge pipes are you guys using? I'm running a 14b On a z6, and i'm wondering if i should run 2 1/2? Also, the intercooler i'm getting is 2 1/4 in/out, so should i get 2 1/4 for max flow, or is it ok to have different sizes (ie from the charge pipe to throttle body and to the intercooler). I want something that is gonna spool up nice and fast!

i'm running 2 1/4 piping from my turbo to my intercooler, then i'm running 2 1/2 from the intercooler to the throttlebody... Now, so that you know, those piping sizes are WAY overkill (i did it like that because i have larger plans, where the piping will be ideal shortly).

Ideally, you want something that is big enough to flow enough air on your setup, but not so big that it can flow any more than what you need to flow, because otherwise it is wasted space that needs to be filled up.

On your app, you may only need to run no larger than 2" all the way through (using reducer connectors to connect the intercooler). Measure the outlet diameter of your compressor, and somewhere around that size is where you ought to start. If you look on many factory turbo cars, the intake piping on them is MUCH smaller than you'd think.

great, thanx alot that's a big help. It's nice when u guys tell me i have to spend less than expected! That's the first time it's happened on here! So a couple JCwhitney U Bends and i'm good to go?

Its a tad bit more complicated than that, just depends on how you're going to route it... But for the most part, yep ;D

heh, ya charge pipes can be a bitch for the first time, visualizing how everything is going to go is easy, its just making that happen with pipes and low resources.

I highly recommend getting a chop saw when doing IC pipes.

The chop saw deal is mandatory in my opinion... you'll feel the same way to when you just get done spending 10 minutes to use a hacksaw to cut a pipe, and then try fitting it only to realize that you need to cut another 1/4" off of it (or cut 5 degrees more of an angle into it) to get it to fit right... at that point you'll break down and buy the saw ;)
