Charade gtti turbo

hey,
I want to turbocharge my 1987 (EDM) 1.6i 16v DOHC honda crx. I wanted to use a saab 900i turbo, but i can't find it anywhere but i know a nice turbo for sale from a daihatsu charade GTti. it's a 1liter 3cylinder engine, with a small turbo. though the wrecker said the turbo could easy deliver 2bar (28psi). I want to use it for 8 maybe 10 psi on my crx.
but is this a good turbo. I know it spools up very quickly so its ideal for the low rpm ranges of my car.
so guys....what do you think ?

another turbo that is available is an Mitsubishi turbo from a dodge shadow. its a bit bigger, maybe too big (haven't got much space ;D)

Re:Charade gtti turbo

Without knowing the size we can't help much but I bet its pretty small. Keep in mind its not so much pressure as is it volume. You want volume.

Re:Charade gtti turbo

28 psi from a stock turbo that comes from a 1.3L is gonna so inefficient and blowing more hot air than a damn holy roller.

yea oke, but as far as i know, 8psi of pressure is 8psi of pressure. If it can't keep up in the high rpm's the pressure will drop, so less volume. I understand that, but i think it will be able to maintain the 8psi-10psi of pressure to 7000rpm.

But what other turbo's are also good, and available (saab 900 turbo is hard to get here).

Btw, how do i know the size of the turbo (T25, T3 etc ?) ive seen 5 turbo's today, but non of them as it written on them.

Re:Charade gtti turbo

That turbo is far too small, you should look into atleast a T3 .42 .48 and do some research!!

Turbo_Camaro 12-28-2004 01:52 AM

Re:Charade gtti turbo

The turbo for that car was made for a 1 liter engine.
It has 101hp stock. Even if you double the boost it doesn't mean it doubles the power.
You better look for a Saab Turbo.
They're easier to find here in holland.
Even a turbo of a Volvo 850 is possible.
A customer of mine is using this on his dragbike and has 275 rearwheel HP.

the geezer was full of ---- ive just sold my mitsy evo 5 and that would not boost at 2bar on stock turbo go for a t3 bud 8)

hotrex 12-28-2004 02:09 AM

Re:Charade gtti turbo

8 psi is not 8psi by any means......

a small ass turbo will flow minimal cfm and mostly ineficient boost.

a turbo such as my sc61 will flow a shitload of cfm and efficeint boost, it will make prob 100 more hp.

maybe this pic wuill help, you tell me which one u think will supply you with moe power, youll get the idea.

i'd love to see a t3 boostin 2bar... almost 30 psi on a t3... wow

Re:Charade gtti turbo

I had a T25 that ran 25 psi once for 5 minutes. (Doin 140Mph in Renault R5 Turbo)
After that it blew oil thru all the seals.
Boostgauge and WG actuator were on one line. had a small leak there.

Re:Charade gtti turbo

oke, so the charade turbo doesn't work, but what about the dodge shadow turbo. As far as i know it is a Mitsubishi turbo ...type: 14B...is that possible ?
the dodge is a 2.5liter engine...will this turbo do a better job ? I want to boost it 8-10psi

Re:Charade gtti turbo

try to also find one off of a Volvo. The Saabs and Volvos used the same 42/48 t3 with diferent trim wheels.Everything else is the same. This turbo is the ideal junk yard turbo for a 1.6 D series engine.

oke, but that is still no answer on my question about the Mitsubishi turbo. Is it good enough for 8-10 psi ?

That turbo can may do 1 bar.But that doesnt meen that it will put out the cfm that a 1.6 liter honda D series engine needs at high prms.

good luch with it :-\

Re:Charade gtti turbo

it was runing 16psi at 340bhp that was the max but thats an evo no a honda

NNBD 12-28-2004 04:56 PM

Re:Charade gtti turbo

yes evo's are nice ;D know someone with a evo7 (stock), he's going for an evo8, but hey...i don't have te money for that.

but about de 14B turbo, its normally used on a 2.5liter dodge shadow, a Mitsubishi eclipse I believe.
I do think im going to give it a try, but Im still looking for someone who's willing to ship me a HF manifold to the netherlands...ANYONE ????

Re:Charade gtti turbo

I found this on Egay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...944494120&rd=1
It is an HF mani with a TD04.

yea i saw it too, to bad nobody is willing to ship oversea :( :( :-\ :'(
I'll buy any HF manifold from someone shipping oversea.

Re:Charade gtti turbo

I'll try and see if any EUDM D14 engines have a HF lookalike manifold.

http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/CivicManual/pdf/9-4.pdf
Look for the D15Z3 engine. (2nd one)
This has a HF look.
After that call

Re:Charade gtti turbo

Thanks, 0413 isn't far away :D i live about 20km under eindhoven, 10 from the belgium border :)

D15Z3 which car does these belong to ? civic 19** - 19** ?
And the D14 which car does that belong to ?

BTW: I've bought the Mitsubishi turbo. it's a TE04H turbo, with 1st piece of downpipe, lambda sonde etc

but does anybody know what the releasepressure is of the wastegate is ?? stock ?

Turbo_Camaro 12-30-2004 02:36 AM

Re:Charade gtti turbo

This is for a 96-00 Civic 1.5
The D14 manifold will fit but hangs to low to mount a turbo to.
Beter look for the D15Z3 (VTEC-E???) engine because this has the best manifold.
I saw one of an old D13 once and it had the same shape as the one from the d15z3. The d13 would be too restrictive.
Good luck with your project.

Pjotr

14b will work.
It's not that big, actually I find it's small and the eclipse has a 2.0L engine.

no dude the d14 manifold is not even close to the hf manifold.
take a look:
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/657283/1

i have a d14 on my 97 1.4is and i live in israel.

what do you think of a garrett t15 on a d14?

Turbo_Camaro 01-03-2005 01:51 AM

Re:Charade gtti turbo

I didn't know for sure if this D14 had a fitting manifold.
So i looked and found the EDM D15Z3 mani looks like a HF manifold.

what do you think of a garrett t15 on a d14?
Sounds kinda small to me.
What car did it come from?

the d14 has the same flange as a d16.

the turbo came from a fiat dublo 1.9 diesel.

Re:Charade gtti turbo

A T15 is way to ------- small, Racepak you need to find a turbo from something other than a diesel engined car/van/bus/lorry

Turbo_Camaro 01-03-2005 10:26 AM

Re:Charade gtti turbo

These Doblo's have instaspool with a diesel.
If you release the clutch too slow it will have max boost before you even move.
If you want one of a diesel take one frome a 2.8 Ducato or a 3.0 Nissan diesel.
Older Ducato's have a 3K (i thought) and the nissan IHI or garret

i will change the turbo few mounths after i'll be boosted i already have the flange ready i just need to buy oil lines. boost gauge. and to make a DP.
