i have a garret turbo that i got a while back. it has a t3 exuast housing and is a .82 a/r and compressor is either .70 or .60 i forgot. this turbo turbo legs too much for me. i want to change the exaust side to a .63. what all do i need to change it? is it gonna be hard to swap it out? i dont know too much about turbos. so i need all the help i can get.

thanks

Re: changing turbine housing?

you just need a 63 housing that matches the stage# of wheel

yes you can change the housing, but you need to see if your turbo was even offered with the housing you plan on changin it to. if it was not offered it may change the spool characteristics drasticly, and sometimes not for the better.

but you should be fine, i have done for this a few times for other people

Re: changing turbine housing?

I had the same problem.
Wouldnt even make 1 PSI till I hit 7000 RPM.
Not suprising. The turbo was off a monster Engine.
Hit the junk yard. Found a Exhaust housing that better suited my engine size.

Only problem the turbine blades wouldnt fit into the housing.
Spin up the housing on a lathe machine the mother outa it till the blade goes in.

Hook it up.
And now its the meanest bad arse setup on the block.
Starts making boost at 1500 RPM and have seen it hit over 24 PSI before 5000 RPM.
