changing internal to external wg
I have a 14b internal gated turbo and was wondering if there is a way to run it with an external gate? I know this might be a newbie question but do you just weld the flapper closed or what? please explain how this works.

Re: changing internal to external wg
You can weld the flapper shut and run an external wastegate, as long as your manifold has a flange for the wastegate.

Re: changing internal to external wg
hmm i wanted to tha with a dsm manifold... can you make a flange/modify a turbo manifold w.o affecting its integrity?

Re: changing internal to external wg
Woudnt is also be possible to remove the flapper, open up the wastegate passage larger, and weld a gate flange onto a section of pipe from where the flapper was (assuming you are using an RRE flange for your downpipe and not a stock dsm o2 housing)? Then face the gate downward so you can merge the wastegate outlet back into the exhaust? It would work better than the internal because the passage would be larger (boost creep?), and then you dont have to weld to the cast iron manifold. Or would welding to the cast iron be easier (thinking HF mani)? Just a thought... I was ponderig externally gating my 14b, wasnt sure if my idea would work, but Im having problems finding someone that will weld to the cast mani so i was looking at other options. Hope that helps some or confused you more :S

Re: changing internal to external wg
of course its possible, but what would you really be gaining by doing this?
