Re:changed my intake

I move the inlet of my turbo because I found that once the car got hot (I mean cruising around town for an hours or so) I was loosing power. My butt dyno tells me it helped. I still have no filter, just primarily suching in air from a cooler spot then between the Three hottest spots on a motor.(Block, Rad, and Manifold)

The optimal place for the filter is where it can get air from the outside. That is hard though because you have to get in front of the rad or IC, or through a headlight, which some people do.

Now the pic works for me. I was thinking about doing the same thing and moving it away from the hot spot. Only gonna do it if it makes a difference. :P

with the flexible tube it didn't, but i changed that out to a section of 2.5" section of the leftover of my cai. now it's filter-2.5"-2.25"-2" compressor inlet. no more whistle and butt dyno feels more power...gotta retune though. i think i can get more timing in it now since it's not so restrictive anymore. my damn new chip burner better come in tomorrow.

A screen or a pantyhose is way more restrictive than a properly sized filter, it takes no genius to figure that one out. Area of a properly sized filter is perharps 10 or more square feet of cotton fabric. Area of a wire mesh or pantyhose is essentially the same as the compressor inlet, or about 5 square inches. A big portion of that area is covered by steel wire or fabric, and turthermore it causes turbulent flow.
And last time I checked my intercooler was to cool the air...

I used two 3" 45º mandrel bent sections of pipe. A little cut and a weld and wha-lah. A nice intake pipe that routes over towards the airbox location (charge pipe there now). I would never use pantyhose or mesh. They call air filters FILTERS for a reason. Go ahead...damage your turbo if you dont care about it.

seriously do you think you gain that much to take the risk of running with a dinky screen mesh or panty hose on the turbo! :-X

not worth the risk in my opinion
