CCA Intercooler????!?!?!?!?!?!

hey guys, just today i went to go buy an intercooler off a drag kit from my friend but when i showerd up with cash in hand he had already sold it, and i just noticed the group buy for the CCA intercoolers

can anyone tell me anythign about these??? how good are they??? compared to the drag ic???

if you guys could do a quick comparison between the cca and other similarly priced IC's that would be awesome, allthough im already thinking that for the price it may just be unbeatable..

also, for a 5th gen hatch, should i have center or bottom inlets/outlets, and top or bottom mounting brackets????

Centered end talks for your car.

CCA intercoolers use Tube and fin cores. Bar and plate are more efficient, but heavier. Extrude is less efficient, but cheaper. For the price, you can't go wrong. Cheap and effective. What more do you want? ;)

Re:CCA Intercooler????!?!?!?!?!?!

Custom Coach makes some pretty good intercoolers, We have one on my girlfriends car, Quality is definatly there, and mounting the intercooler is pretty easy. Most everyone on HMT uses either a CustomCoach IC, Johnny Racecar, or a modified starion.

The new style Johnnyracecar IC looks really nice,

212 shipped. I have one sitting on my fireplace mantle. hahah,

Did he start using a different core?

I thought he was using Extrude "PowerStroke" cores?

hmmmmm.... ok then .... lets hear a vote.....

the 6" CCA intercooler for 200 shipped
or
the johny racecar 8" for 212 shipped???

what do you guys think is the better bang for the buck????

Re:CCA Intercooler????!?!?!?!?!?!

Yup on his new IC's he is using a different core than before. Its a bit thicker too. Whitey has one on his car, they are a little awkward to mount on a EF.

My votes going to be a little biased,

you guess...

girlfriends car gets cca, my car gets jrc =)

Yup, I'm running a JRC and I was really impressed at the quality. I bought it back when it was $195 8) Its a great intercooler. I love the top and bottom plates, I think intercoolers look like ---- without them.

Jeff said it himself, CCA are for girls and JRC are for the men :P J/K the CCA seems to be good also

Here's the only pic I have of it since newbieforces ate the other ones :-\

Custom mount cause it is a bitch to fit on an EF

Re:CCA Intercooler????!?!?!?!?!?!

i must say, the jrc looks very impressive as well....

but as of right now im going to be running a d15b7 with a 14b.... you dont think this intercooler is too large for me do you??? is it going to cause alot of lag??

also what size charge piping would you recomend??? 2.5 would be nice but im thinking id get a heck of alot of lag at that point ...

how come i dont see that new 8" on his web page???

anyway, im guessing most people prefer the jrc ic over the cca then .... hmmmmm

oh, and am i going to have fitment issues in my 5th gen civic???

i really like it, it looks god, and if you guys say its good ---- then i belive it, cause i havent been steered wrong here....

im just afraid of it being too big for my setup

thanks to all who have helped so far!!!

Sorry I cant answer your question about fitment, but I will vouch for the quality. Mine came in yesterday, and it's a beautiful piece.

Re:CCA Intercooler????!?!?!?!?!?!

2.5" is the most common. I don't think it creates any more lag than a 2" system. Some people might tell you it does, but I don't buy it.....

%gen Civics have shitloads of room for intercoolers. You will have to trim the bumper a bit for any intercooler(usually).

A general rule of thumb is you can't have an intercooler that is too big. Don't be a smartass and say "What if I'm running 4psi and I have a 36"x14"x8" intercooler". :P

Both fmics are good but I'd personally go with the CCA. My 6in fit perfectly except for trimming the bumper a bit and any bigger you would have to start hacking. I personally try to stay away from the sawzall as much as possible. :P

I love my Sawzall. 8) I have two, one is cordless. I made "custom" motor mounts with it a few minutes ago. 8)

Re:CCA Intercooler????!?!?!?!?!?!

haha, yo ill hack up my bumper without even looking if i need to cut ---- off!!!

in fact, its not even my bumper, its the bumper that the spanish kid that stole my car, as well as my b16 and thousands of $$$'s of other accesories, put on my car so he could roll it back onto the street ( not being racial, but i talked to the kid that stole my car on the phone,.,.... now thats a whole other intresting storry)

so yeah, i guess ill go ahead and order up a jrc 8" relatively soon....

so for intercooling piping then, the lot of you would recoment me going all 2.5?????

how do i get the small hole from the outlet ob my 14b into the 2.5" piping??? that cant posibly be a smooth transition!?!?!?!?!

MikeJ-2009 11-07-2004 03:21 AM

Re:CCA Intercooler????!?!?!?!?!?!

Both intercoolers are good. I've never had a JRC, but I have had a CCA. When things are too close to call you go with the guy that's actually posted on HMT in the last 2 years.

Always go with who you know. ;)

You can use a transitional coupler but those things are expensive. My silicon transitonal coupler cost something like 25 bux but home depot has something simliar and cheaper.

He's just talking ---- about things he doesn't know about. Every intercooler will give you pressure drop. You're putting an obstruction in the airway. Of course you're going to lose some flow.

You say I'm talking ---- yet you reinforce my point.

And that was my ------- point..that the larger the core the worse the pressure drop. and I was referring to the 8.5" tall, 3+" core in the ebay auction as opposed to a much smaller 5" tall 2.5" thick JRC core. ::)

Maybe for bigger boost aps that's a good size but for a 1.6L civic with 6-7 lbs of boost that's an overkill IMO.

92hatchattack 11-08-2004 07:01 PM

Re:CCA Intercooler????!?!?!?!?!?!

those dimentions you lister are extrernal dimension...

the core is 25x7.75x2.75

do i feel its a little big??? yeah, but who cares, a little lag, blah... and im gonna be running a 1.5Liter at 8psi..... think of it this way, when i get a 1.6 and pump it up to 10psi, or put another b16 in, i wont have to upgrade :)

You better do a little more research. Pressure drop is increased by a longer core. the height does not create a noticeable pressure drop. You sound like someone who is talking from what they read on the internet and not from experience. Someone who has experience with going different sized intercoolers will tell you that pressure drop is not an issue.

Have you ever felt the pressure drop from an intercooler?? By your arguements I'm guessing no. On my old setup I went from non intercooled to a core size of 24 x 12.5 x 3 at 8psi and the fraction of a second of lag doesn't even compare to the massive HP it created
