Car still with problems! *help*

Ok well I got new resistors for my injectors. Completly redid all my wiring. Fitted my injectors better. Routed in my Intake Air Temp Sensor, made vac sources off my charge pipes for my bov and wastegate. And have my boost gauge T'ed off my FPR. Checked for leaks and cant find any. Ok well car starts, and idles at like 200.. flucuates to 800. And vac is around -10.. and goes to -12-15 during sputters. The car is running hella rich. My settings are on the smc -47 for idle to 1.5k -46 everywhere else. Even set idle to like -55 and it still rich as ----. It just wants to keep bogging and dying. Now I have a fuel pump cut off switch. If I turn the pump off it holds -20 vac. and idles fine. But dies out after a few mins (when fuel is gone). I really need help with this. I've been on this for 3 weeks and nothings changed.

My setup: 14b, hf manifold, adapter plate, dsm black tops, 10watt 10ohm inline resistors, smc500, o2sim, dsm 1g bov, stock fuel pump, stock fpr.

Only thing is I knew who owned these before me, and they ran fine. =\

how did u do the o2 sim.. could be tricking the ecu into thinking its lean and dumps extra un needed fuel.

Or maybe the intake air temp is reading hotter then normal intake temps because of the turbo.

pinched fuel return line somewhere?

any fuel pressure guage? cheap info available w/ one of those, good for diagnosing things.

The o2 sim has been on the car for a really long time. Intake air temp i dont think is causing it. And im positive that theres no line pinchs. :(

i know the FPR is stock oem, but is it new or original??

BlinD 08-13-2003 12:44 PM

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

its original.. I'm wondering if my smc is bad. Because what happened when all my problems started I was NA. And installed my boost gauge, and smc. Set the smc to 0% and it kept flooding it out. Maybe I should go afc.

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

who makes the SMC? greddy? Also is there a setting that lets you bypass the smc settings and make it work like is not even there ?? like a pass-thru option?

Try taking the smc out and see what happens.

maybe your FPR is toast aswell?

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

it sounds to me like that smc is just junk. if it started na and the only mod was that and the boost gauge then it has to be that.. either its not wired up right or its just defective.

I can't believe your still dicking with it.. FWIW my car is still running like ---- also.. I'm waiting for some more chips to get here and a wide band to tune it. I suspect its running rich and fouling out the plugs... it runs great when I install new plugs and weeks or so later it starts to studder and gradually run worse.. Thing is when I pull the plugs they look great.. I think the 02 sensor is letting it clean them up when its just cruising along.

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

Todd. probably. Well yeah it in my mind is the smc. I've rewired the thing like 4 times. And the wiring is perfect. Injectors have been rewired and they seem the same. I have a feeling its the smc. Because everyone says at 0% it runs like stock. Well 0% was flooding. Heh. So I guess I need to invest in a AFC. I really need my car back. 1 month no car = :( . Anyone know how much they run new? I dont really want to ---- with used ---- right now.

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

well if the SMC is toast why is it running like a champ (until the lines empty) when he turns the pump off???

Im tink the oem fpr is dead.

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

I thought about this myself actually. But why would the fpr work perfectly before the smc was installed. I dunno this one has really got me.

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

dont forget u did a boost guage too and it connects to the FPR line right.. try a diff line, maybe MAP line see what that does. Maybe the boost guage has a leak and its bleeding vac away from the fpr causing it to richen?? (higher prssures)

BlinD 08-13-2003 01:31 PM

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

Cant be. Because when the fuel pump is turned off the gauge reads -20 vac steady. But when its running and stumbling to idle its only -10-12. Plus this is a new boost gauge, and new vac line, and a new T, and new fpr hose than previously.

88crxSi 08-13-2003 01:32 PM

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

maybe when its stumlbes because its rich that makes less vac cuz its almost not running.... ???

try disconnecting the boost guage and plugging that line with a golf Tee.

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

First thing I would do is get a $20 fuel pressure gauge and see what its running.. I think the low vaccum is from it flooding out and trying to stall. If the smc is bad just return it for a new one.. New afc are like $400 now. You might be better off going obd 1 and chipping it.

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

where did you get a $20 fuel pressure gauge. Everywhere I've been like discount and ---- theyre $35-40. Damn $400 insane. Looks like I'll be getting a used one if the smc is trash. The smc btw was bought used, by someone I dont know. Also bought a btm from them that I have yet to install.

hrm I got a fpr from a d16z6 fuel rail. Cold I put that on? Or are they not switchable?

no he's got the y8.. it should fit and work fine.

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

the smc doesn't have lo throttle setting and hi throttle settings does it? i would get afc. that way you can set for lo throttle setting out of boost and hi throttle settings when in boost. sounds like the smc is bad.

Re:Car still with problems! *help*

What should my fuel pressure be? Im going to go get a gauge tonight. And if my pressure is higher than supposed to. I'm going to go AEM regulator route. If not. Then afc.
