Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

Well heres the problem. I get into my car this morning and well it just doesn't start. My AFC doesn't cut on either. Well I got it to start one time but the big injectors made it lobby and then it cut off like 10 seceonds later. I checked the AFC and apperently the wires had been tugged and they werent connected inside. So I took the back cover off and sure enough the little plug that plugs into the board was off. So I plugged it back in thinking everything would be ok. NOT!! It still didnt cut on!! The car still turns over and everything it just wont cut on. Then after messing around a little and trying to start the car the battery goes dead on me. WTF!! The AFC guy said to check all the wires at the ECU but I really dont see how they could have come loose. Could my AFC be fucked up??? I also blew my ecu fuse twice (I guess because the plug in the afc was only half connected because it hasnt happened since I replugged it) WTF is going on??????

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

The battery going dead on me was wierd because I'm working an Optima red top that hasn't even been in the car for a year. "sigh" What could be causing the AFC not to cut on and make my battery die?

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

i don't know what's the problem, are you getting any fuel alt all?? I have a red top optima and it flipped over in my trunk yesterday and welded it's own terminals upsidown in my trunk while driving. It started right back up.. If yours died, it should be under warranty for like 5 years. those batteries are sweet.

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

I think the car is getting fuel but I think it cant start because its getting too much. I have 450s in and I'm pretty sure the stock ecu without the AFC working cant run the injectors without it flooding the engine.

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

try after cranking pull out a a spark plug then see if it is wet. If you aren't getting any fuel at all I would switch back to stock injectors untill you figure out what is going on with the afc. or get as close to 300cc. I have heard a stock ecu can handle up to 300cc without running to rich.

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

well I would just move back to stock injectors but that isnt an option right now. My turbo is on and I'm running 9-10 pounds of boost. If I used stock injectors with no fuel management I would for sure blow my motor.

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

then get a new afc

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

Well of course that is an easy answer!!!! I'm like an hour away from home and kinda need to get my car home. Can the AFC really break just like that? I've never heard of one just breaking like this though. DAAMMMMIT this sucks!!! Somebody must have somthing to help me!!

check your AFC wire connections at the ECU, especially if you didn't solder them, they might just have came loose with the "tug".

When you say "the little plug that plugs into the board was off", do you mean inside the AFC? and not the outer wiring? If it's internal of the AFC unit, it sounds like when the wire was tugged, it might have damaged the circuit board. I would disconnect the AFC and examine to make sure all the contacts are still soldered on before reinstalling it.. you don't want to fry your AFC by fussing with it. Just pray your ECU or AFC isn't fried. Sorry to hear man.

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

Yeah I mean the plug actually INSIDE the afc. I unscrewed the back and it was right there. Everything inside appears to be ok although I'm no computer wiz or anything. It's pretty smart how they made the wires that go into the afc have a plug rather than being soldered on. Well I had to come home to get some tools. Off to see if I can fix this or not!! Anyone else have a problem with this??

Actually, I have a friend with an eclipse GST that had the same problem, Apex-i SAFC somehow just messed up, was blowing fuses and stuff, and wouldn't turn the motor over, as soon as we disconnected it at our shop the car started right up.....so you could always try temporarily unplugging it...motor won't blow if you don't rag on it
=)

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

so is the AFC even coming on? once youve made sure the internal connector is OK and no wire separation goin on, make sure you screw the thing back together real tight also, because mine worked itself loose, and the 4 outside screws hold the halves together and this pressure also holds the connector that joins the two daughterboards together inside the AFC, and would make the damn car die because the AFC was momentarily shutting off. good luck with it

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to connect the stock injectors back up tommorow and disconnect the AFC unless I can find something better to do. As for does it come on or not, it's kinda wierd. I was checking all the connections and all and they were fine. Before I plugged the ecu back in I turned the key just to see if it would cut on. Well the buttons lit up but it didnt come on. So I prceed to plug the ECU in and the AFC lights stay on until I plug in the small connector in the ECU (the one on the right if your looking at it from the front). I unplugged the connector and the AFC button lights come on again. So i just said ---- it and plugged the ECu back in (again the button lights cut off). Well if anyone can help before I take it out I would appreciate it. Oh yeah, when I had the AFC apart the connectors to the screen looked to be tarnished brown (dont no if thats a problem or not) Any help would be appreciated.

oOooooOh, tarnished brown is not good, could have been the marks of a short. Or it could just be shotty factory soldering hehe. are any other connectors that color?

Hope your ECU isn't fried either ???

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

There could have been a short.
I hope not for your sake.
If the screen doesn't come on and the connectors are brownish well i think you fried the screen.

Fuggit I think it's just fried. Well I just bought the limited edition black SAFC 2 today to replace it. Oh yeah heres a very important question. Is it possible for the SAFC to fry the ECU? The guy at apexi said that it couldnt and I dont really see how it could but it's still got me a little worried.

bummer,
they couldnt replace ur safc under warranty or something?

b4 u plug in your new afc do yourself a favour and put a fuse on the 12v switched wire ok? and cheeck your ecu conneections if you didnt, something is loose and shorting it out, thats why you keep blowin ecu fuses, just be thankful those fuses are saving your ecu

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

ok well I tried to install this new SAFC 2 I just bought and I got all the wires straight and everything and guess what. IT STILL DIDNT CUT ON!!! I'm thinking that even if my ecu could have gotten fucked up the AFC would still power up because it's hooked to a power wire that goes into the ECU. Isn't this right? Should I be tracking down power wires instead of messing with the ECU? I'm really thinking that the AFC would at least cut on no matter if the ECU is broken or not. You think that the car and everything won't start because the power wire going into the ecu is messed up? If this is the case, where does the power wire from the ecu go so I can track it down?

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

Well here is the update. I hooked up the afc and it cuts on and everything when the ecu isnt hooked up but once I plug in the ecu the afc cuts off when I put the 3rd connector in (THE SMALL ONE) So is my ecu just fucked up now? It's definetly not the AFC because the brand new one I just bought doesnt work qwhen I have the ecu plugged in. Its confusing the hell out of me why the afc works when the ecu isnt plugged in but once I plug it in it just cuts off. Somebody help me out on this one I have run out of ideas besides my ecu is fucked.

Did you check for CEL codes yet?? If not, do that first. Check all your fuses again, ECU and RADIO backup. Does your car start with the stock injectors and the AFC completely disconnected?? Don't drive the car, just check to see if it starts. If it doesn't, you got a problem with the ECU or it's connection.

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

I didnt have the chance to try and put the stock injectors back in. I guess my next step is to just uninstall the afc and see if something happens. Would the car start if my ecu is blown? Oh yeah you said something about hooking the plugs up that make the CEL blink so that I can see what code I'm throwing. Where the hell is this plug at?

Re:Car fine yesterday..... doesnt even start today

Oh yeah if my ecu is fine and all, would it be possible to hook the AFC up to another power and grounding source? I know the AFC has to have the brown wire closer than the black on the ground but does anyone know if its ok to get the power and ground from another source? Oh yeah if anyones interested I have an extra SAFC laying around that works. I have both the SAFC and the SAFC 2 from japan so if anyone needs one I could seel it to them. The SAFC I thought was broke isnt (powers up and everything its just my ecu or somthing else is messed up) so if anyones interested shoot me a holla.

The plug is on the passenger side under the dash by the plastic cover. It's a 2 wire prong connector. Just connect it with a paper clip or a piece of wire. Make sure both fuses for the ECU is good and all the wires reconnected that were intercepted by the AFC.
