Cam timing for boost

I was wonderin what the best timing advance or retard I should use for my b16
Im running 5psi, a guy told me to retard both the intake and exhaust 18 deg.
that doesnt sound too right

What you guys think???

Re: Cam timing for boost

Leave your cam timing alone. He was probably talking about ignition timing. Stock is 16˚ BTDC so he was probably advising you to retard a couple degrees at the distributor, which you shouldn't have to do anyways if you have proper engine management.

+1 thats a ---- load, adj. cam gears will only let you go 10degrees at most, you'd have to jump a tooth and still pull more back def. not good.

Re: Cam timing for boost

I did play a lot on the cam gears on my h22.
a noticed even a tiny change in adjustment of either or both gears resulted in O2 readings clearly indicating the engine wants more fuel in some portion of the rpm band. But it's rarely across the board. Most of the times, the give and take between low and top end tq makes you come back to zero.

Playing with cam gears on a FI ride is largely a waste of time and effort, Grow some balls and crank the boost controller knob, jeez.
