Bursting hose couplers
 

Just a quick question as I have never broke one...
For all of you using home depot and cheapo intake hose couplers, I've heard plenty of stories of them not holding the boost you give em. Do they just break off where it's clamped and no damage or do they split open in the middle somewhere?

I think they mostly just pop off. Stevemode had them on his car at the track and they just kept blowing off, so he'd have to keep on loosening the clamp and then tightening it back on. Then again if you are not going to boost into the double digits I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd pinch the ends of the pipes too anyways too.

Most of the time they will just pop off. The clamp and all that will still be on there just like nothing happened. Any of them near the manifold/turbo you will blow a hole in. Use the same diameter radiator hose in these area's.
When those couplers get hot, they feel like bubble gum, but if your only going to about 10psi, you should be alright.

Use a quality connector, usually silicone near the turbo. The ones far away from the turbo can just be HD or other rubber.

Just use good clamps, a bead around the ends from welder, and try a little hairspray that can help with leaks, not so much with full bursting.

Mine are fine with some beading on the pipes and t bolt clamps. Like stealth said just don't use any around the turbo.

i've blown quite a few of the cheap ones to shreads :P buy if you have silicon hose or thick radiator hose, they'll just pop off if anything.

ive used them up to 13psi, and on my friends eclipse they held 22 psi and rarely blew off. You just need to flare the ends of the pipe and make your pipes so they meet nicely

i use silicon blue hose with the red inside and not once has it poped off or moved. and i have a welded bead around each charge pipe end.

I never knew people had problems like this

So if your boosting 18psi, just get on it for a while, the hose gets mushy and just pops off? Isnt that dangerous at high speed?

How do you guys have welded beads on the charge pipes? I thought everyone just cut up mandrel bends for there charge pipes?

i think you're looking in to it too deep.

1) yes couplers will pop off the pipe sometimes with high boost.

2) he was saying the couplers by the turbo will get mushy and hot if you use the cheap ones.

2)no it's not dangerous, it just kills the boost instantly, it's not like you're tire falls off or anything.

3) you just weld a bead around the end of the pipe to keep the hose clamp from slipping past it (not necessary unless you have a problem keeping your couplers on)

4) you do just cut up mandrel bends for your charge pipes.
