ok, I just started running slicks on my CRX and when in the burnout pit, I can't heat the slicks up enough without the car moving forward past the tree. Now the officials kept threatening to throw me off the track because I burnout too far. I don't think this is normal or I am not doing something right.

I know I am not heating them up enough because I am still spinning the slicks through all of 1st and 2nd. When in the pit, I am not even getting any smoke from the tires. I had a couple of buddies of mine try and hold the car back with the ebrake up while I heat the tires but the car still pulls forward before I can really heat up the slicks.

I just tried heating them in 1st gear, well that didn't work. So, I then tried heating them and speed shifting all the way to 3rd and they started heating up, like begining to smoke but then I was out of the pit.

Any advice on heating the slicks? Is my car too lite at 1700 pounds? Is the wheel base of the CRX too short? Should I try shifting through all of the gears in the pit?

how many hp do you have on that crx? what engine? what size slicks? what rpm do you try to burn out at?

I don't know about the rules of the track, but you could start it from a reverse roll...atleast that is what I do on street tires when I want to smoke them up real good. get rolling like 5mph backwards if that then just launch at about 5-6k and pull the ebrake at the same time...

I really doubt you will beable to do this at the track but it is just an idea.


Are your rear tires slipping(the tires that is) or are the brakes not holding?

if you are running good hp numbers use 2nd gear.

Getting the burnout is a bit tricky if its your first time, Hopefully your track lets you pull in the waterbox straight on like shown below. Pull in the box, get the tires in the middle, pull the ebrake all the way, rev it up, dump the clutch and start spinning the tires. Keep the tires spinning hold it at 7-8 grand whatever, then shift into 2nd gear as fast as you can, continue holding the rpms up high, I lightly feather the throttle back and forth. Until I see some smoke coming off the tires then I'm satisfied, let off the ebrake (still hold the rpms up) and the car should want to start to hook up as you slowly creep out of the box. It should bite really hard after you slightly get out of the box so get ready to hit the brakes hard.

like someone else said definitly try to do it in 2nd gear with the e-brake engaged as hard as possible. good luck

What size slicks are those Jeff? I am running M&H Racemaster slicks 23x8.5x15 @ 14psi.

I've never seen rules about how you must do a burnout on a track. Dragsters with no brakes in the front usually do like 100ft burnouts

NHRA rules state any open cabin vehicle (dragster) is allowed one burnout pass the lights. Closed cabin vehicles are forbidden to do so and will be asked to leave the track.

It really depends on the event, a test and tune or a tournament if they really want to enforce the rules.

I got warned when I burned out past the tree. This was at California Speedway's drag strip. The guy was all pissed, and told me if it was an event, he would kick me out. He also warned me about my windows being down.
