I myself have decided to not go with a ls vtec and go with a boosted SOHC cuase i want higher numbers. Just wondering sense im gonna be bulding up the internals anyways, im gonna use forged rods, with some srp pistons, whould it help at all to build up valve train? I wanna build up this motor right, I wanna buld up a d16z6. Any one here replace there valve train on a build, If so with what kind of product did ya use

 

If you want to do it right I would say go with a dohc motor you will get more power. Then look into gapless piston rings they will run you more than normal rings, but you will have less blow by. And a for the valve train a cam with a long duration will help you get more boost into your motor much more effectivly. large valves will help along with a good port and polish job.

 

Im looking ot go with a sohc, cuase its alot cheaper, but as for my setup, this is what im gonna go with so far

9:1 pistons
Forged pistons
Apr rod bolts
Apr head studs
Crower Turbo cam
Head Port and polish
Im not sure if im gonna need to post the block, i was just reading about it on the tech board , not sure if im gonna need to, I wanna be getting 300 hp

 

becuase, im not gonna build up a motor unless its gonna be done right, a ls vtec is gonna me more expensive and id rather put the money into a d series, will i need to post the block to hit 300 hp

 

how much ya want for it, what engine, what does it include, message me

I myself am using a stock head that I took apart, smoothed out the ports a bit, and put it all back together with a good valve job. I was going to go with the crower cam, but I've heard (and now think I understand) that the cost vs. the benefit of the crower cam is in favor of keeping the stock one. The place where I really spent the money is in the machine work. Boring, honing, micropolishing and cutting the crank, all new factory gaskets, etc....
From what I have been taught, you don't need to really change the valvetrain unless you plan on reving the motor higher than the factory planned. I don't plan on it. If it was an all motor car or something, aftermarket valvetrain would be beneficial.
I decided to use the stock cam because the car will be turbo. If the crower cam gives you slightly more lift and maybe a little duration, thats more air you can stuff into the cylinder. But, the lift and duration of the stage 1 cam would probably be no match compared to cranking up the boost 1 more pound. To me, that's not worth the $260 I was gonna spend on the cam.
I do things based on the info I've read and what I feel. I'm not an ASE mechanic, I'm just sharing my feelings. (Don't want to come across like I know everything) There's some good reading in the "Building block, need suggestions" post in..........Hybrid/Tech.

The posts are sold by endyn. (theoldone.com) but they don't list them on thier site. You have to call them. They are $36 for all of them. I'm gonna run 13psi to start. Future boost increases and/or nitrous may be called to duty. We'll just have to see what happens. -Steve
