Budget Turbo GSR...

----, I dont have all the pics oh well, I'll post them later. Heres the Story line.

My buddy Ted (cadracer) was doing a cheap ass turbo setup for a 96 Integra GSR. What does "cheap ass" mean, well that means with all the parts and install 1400 dollars. LOL, so you can only imagne how cheap this is going to be.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg4.JPG

Snail of choice the popular Garrett T3 .60/.63 Tbird/Meurker/SVO turbo. This is a pretty goodsize turbo for the GSR, and will max out about 300whp. Picked this off of ebay for 90 bucks.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg5.JPG

Using the Hotn3ss SSautochrome manifold. Ebay special of course. Ted braced the ---- out of the bottom of it, so hopefully it wont crack to bad.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg6.JPG

Bling... Oil return fitting from Craig @ Tuner Toyz.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg7.JPG

Since the SShomo manifold sits the turbo pretty close to the radiator, we couldnt use the stock T3 wastegate actuator. We used a spare T25 wastegate actuator modified to fit. (extending the arm basically)

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg9.JPG

Ted doing a fabulous job with the External wastegate block off plate. Using a chunk of his old ford bumper.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg12.JPG

Test fit looks good. Also using a Stealthmode Oil line kit (oldschool -4) w/ a tunertoyz block fitting.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg1.JPG

Intercooler off ebay.. No its not a Johnny racecar, or Custom coach. I dont know the brand, but it's just like them, maybe a touch smaller.

The customer didnt want anything cut off his bumper, so this made it difficult.

As you can see we were to lazy to dissconnect the radiator lines, so we just relocated the radiator for the install, HAHA

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg2.JPG

Looking good.. cardboard is always nice for test fits

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg3.JPG

As you can see the Stock Tbird/SVO/Merkuer exhaust housing aims the downpipe directly forward. Obviously thats not going to work.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg17.JPG

So we hack the fucker off attach a 2.5 mandrel bend and weld a nice fatty bead with lots of heat. As you can see the welder we used didnt have gas. Fluxcore ownage :-\

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg18.JPG

Block off plate installed

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg13.JPG

Me drilling out a hole on the aftermarket cold air intake pipe the guy had.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg15.JPG

Only professionals use JB weld ;)

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg16.JPG

Damn thats a nice bead if I've ever seen one!

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/ted/teg10.JPG

Test fit of the intercooler with the bumper on..

I'll see if ted has anymore pics of the install. for fuel management, was using a FMU, and the fucker was still lean at 5psi. The customer has the car right now, and were getting it back shortly with a jumper harness OBD2-1 and a chipped p28 so this thing can actually perform.

More coming soon ;)

Re:Budget Turbo GSR...

Jeff, any plans to dyno this thing after the upgraded engine management? I'm curious to know what kind of numbers we're looking at here on a budget setup. It could perform pretty well :) I just like seeing what a setup can do.

HMT-Admin 11-06-2004 02:20 PM

Re:Budget Turbo GSR...

Eh, my guess would be around 230ish at the wheels with 8psi

I'm sure we will dyno it

Re:Budget Turbo GSR...

I am thinking of using a similar set-up on my b16. Post up those HP numbers and I am also curious about what RPM that turbo spools at. Maybe some 1/4 mile times too... Also, were you able to keep the A/C? I think I am going to mount the turbo with the compressor on the driver's side. Any thoughts on how that would turn out? Thanks for any info you can tell me

Nice. Teds JB weld job is super sexy :D Is that one of the newer SSauto manifolds, looks a little diffrent than the one I have been re-welding all the time.
