Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

Hi Im new to this site but I used some info off of here to learn everything about turbo kits. First off, I have a 00' Civic EX with of course the d16y8 (soon to be the d16y8T ;D) I'm just about to start my turbo build. I got an offer on a brand new Garrett TB25 turbo for $185 shipped. It's internally gated at 7 PSI. Im looking to make somewhere between 165-190whp. Im going to be using a 25 wide X 5.875 tall X 2.75 deep FMI with 2.5" OD on both sides, 1g DSM BOV, DSM 450cc injectors, and a log manifold and custom downpipe from CCFAB. Is that a good set-up? I've never heard anything about those turbo's so I need as much info on them as any of you can give me. I've tried searching for it but I can't find much. I'll post pics of it later. But can I reach right around 170whp with that turbo and a good tune? Im running stock internals except for a Zex stg 2 cam and valve springs. I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks a lot...

-Stephen

Ok here's the pics. What do you guys think? Good turbo to work with for my goals or what? I really want to beat modded b16's and hang with/beat stock GRS's...and of course, Mustang GT's ;)

I think that is the T25 used on Sabb's but I could be wrong. It should be perfect for your goals. The only thing is you are probably minited to around roughly 200whp with a small T25.It will spool super quick and should be lots of fun on the street with really good low end power.Does it say what the AR is on the exhaust side?

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

I don't know about the exhaust side. Im pretty sure the other side is .49 though. The guy is sending me more pics tonight so I'll post them up too. So I could easily hit 180whp with that turbo and the rest of the stuff I mentioned already? And I can run like 10 psi on a t25 on stock internals and it be really safe still right? I was only going to run around 8 psi but that was on a t3...Will the top end be good with it too? I really want good tq but I also want good top end. Im looking to finally hit either a 14.0 or really low 13's in the 1/4

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

oh cool. tahts the exact turbo i used. your probly getting it thru the same guy i get mine thru. its a greeeeat turbo. never had a prob with it. its wonderful. quiet bearings, seals were perfect. never had a problem out of mine. no coolant , coolant, no oil restrictor, oil restictior i never had a prob out of it no matter how i had it hooked up. boost was instand on my 1.6 non vtec. it runs out of air though. but has great power from 2.5-6. anything over and its just a flat power band. there is a .60 or .63 a/r turbine available for it which will help with its lack of power over 6. id gave me about 190 ft pounds at 10 psi and 180 hp. the wastegate i never had a problem out of either works great. you can clock it a little more to pull the w/g arm out a little more and get like 9 psi out of it without a boost controller. i used a turbo xs dual stage and it never spiked on me. but all in all its a great turbo as for durablility but lacks in the power. i think mine went to like 15 psi and would have given me like 220 whp or so. anything over that and youll need a different turbo. it comes on turbo sunfires and i foget whatelse

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

that turbo will be alot of fun even if u dont make 200$ hp

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

awesome. Thanks guys...so you ran that exact same one? TB25? Im getting mine from a guy on d-series.org ..it's brand new though. Im looking to make the power you're making and Im going to running it on 10 psi so hopefully I will. Can you hear it spinning when you're on it hard? (I mean that cool sound)

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

mine was new also. you hear the wonderful sucking sound. with open downpipe you could hear the wonderful flutter from the exhaust. after the full exhaust i never heard it again. but it awsome around the city. kinda shits out on the interstate. it makes a great blow off. very loud and you can blow off from a stand still. i had a greddy type s. you can make your power goals perfectly with this turbo. just keep the piping small for the intercooler i went with 2 inch. you could go to 2.25 but dont bother with 2.5 inch. the tq is awsome. it seems to be at its best efficency at like 12 psi. it really wants to go with 12. with 12 on a y8 you could be looking at id say like 185 hp and 195 ft pounds. i ran the 30 x 5 x 3.5 jrc intercooler and noticed a good 1-2 psi hp feel over a dsm sidemount so deffeintly go with a fmic for this turbo. mine was a .48 a/r compressor and .49 a/r turbine. i am about to do another setup with the same turbo. so i can help you with clocking it and oil fittings for it. its not like everyother turbo.

Stephen 12-13-2005 08:59 PM

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

that would be awesome dude...thanks a lot man. Would 12 psi on stock internals of a y8 be safe for daily driving, since it's just a t25. But yea. I know some fittings are different for the TB25 than just the regular t25. What oil line kit should I get? By the way, the turbo uses a regular t3 flange right?

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

well you keep saying tb25.. i dont know mine was called a t25 and it used a non dsm stadard garrett t25 flange. it uses a giant c clip to hold the compressor in place so you need to get it out to clock it... thats fun :) then drill holes in the compressor and tap for teh new place for the w/g acuator mounting spot. heres my pictures of the setup i built with mine....

http://turbod16.com/album_personal.php?user_id=2523

took some work to get all the crap i needed for it but its great once its done

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

Yea dude, mines a tb25...I think it's just a version of the t25. It' still good though. Someone on d-series told me that this one Im using uses a t3 flange. Why did you do all that for the wastegate? Mine's internally gated already lol. Im a little confused now. I thought I could just hook everything up and go with it. Who made your downpipe? and how well did it line up with your exhaust?

o0Quicksilver0o 12-13-2005 11:09 PM

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

yes i know it came internally w/g'd but when you clock it you have to remount it you cant just leave it where its mounted, it will never reach. yea your flanges looks huge i have a spec sheet of a t3 down these forums. if yours matches it its a t3 flange... its on a thread called like t3 inlet somthign somthing. i made everything on my car so yes it all fit up

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

Every where on google that the TB25 is mentioned just happens to be a german forum. It has some pics of GTi's and Jetta's. I wonder if the turbo is from a Golf. I wouldn't mind. Those bitches are pretty fast.

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

yeah, i'm the one selling it. it is a tb25. from what garrett told me, it was a limited production model from japan. only difference that i can tell while looking it over is the oil fittings (i'll get you those part numbers) and i sitll have to get you the pictures bro. i'll do that right now. but yeah, i thought tb25 didn't sound right either, but garrett confirmed it.

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

oh, and it's a t25 flange, not t3 just to let you know so you don't go buy a t3 adapter or anything.

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

bad ass man. I was gonna get it anyway lol. Im just trying to get some info on it. I'll check for the pics in just a minute. Thanks man.

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

ya i got a t25 on my y7 at only 5.5 psi and it just shoots off like a bullet then on the top end thats what hits you maybe at like 90 or 100 it start to die off. other then that me at 5.5 psi in a ek hatch i can keep up with mustangs and some and i said some Z28s. have fun you will love whole shots

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

there is that larger turbine you can put on it and help with the dieing out problem at high rpms if your interested.

Stephen 12-15-2005 05:17 PM

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

hey I am gonna get it if I can. Where can I get the bigger turbine at and are you sure they make it for the TB25? Either way, Im gonna get it. If for some odd reason it doesn't work for me, then I'll just sell it to someone else. Sonny is giving me an awesome deal though and Im gonna take it lol. I think it's well worth the money.

if its the turbo in the picture than its a t3 flange.

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

normally i'd agree, but i tested it with a t25 manifold. matched up and everything

yeah, the t25 flanged manifold i had in my hand must have been a mistake ::)

off of one of garrett's sites. my point is, there are a vast number of different t25's, not all have the exact same exhaust inlet flange.

Stephen 12-15-2005 11:36 PM

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

Yea and I got an emailed a distributor of Garrett's turbo's and they said it fit's a regular t25 flange. Can you really buy a bigger turbine to replace the small one in the TB25?

o0Quicksilver0o 12-16-2005 09:12 AM

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

yea its no different.

Re: Brand new TB25 offer...how are these turbos?

That flange is absolutly not a standard T3 flange. The 4 bolt T25 flange is smaller.
