brake hard lines for turbo oil?
i was at the store today and they had differnt lengths and sizes of brake hard lines you can bend to shape for like $4, and my ford t3 already has one of the flare compression type fitting on it with the hard line cut , so maybe i could get or make one that the other end would thread into a block fitting ? it would be cheap and kinda cool i guess but most importantly cheap, whos done this? thought i seen it on here before. are most block fittings like the stealthmode tuner toys one an odd size ? i mean like buy a block fitting or make a firewal t or somthing that the hard line fitting threads into

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
Ive seen it done
Fairly cheap if you can bend them yourself, Ive also seen them leak to no regard.... Stainless braided isnt that expensive for a feed only, and it wont leak on ur ass, Im sure you can find a -3 feed line for under 30 bucks |
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
been done by many people. I personally would just go with the stealthmode kit for the whole thing, or go super budget style and make everything yourself.
If you are gonna want the TunerToys block fitting and drain flange then you are already a good ways to the sale price right now. |
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
I have my feed done with a brakeline. It works great and doesn't leak a drop. A brakeline bender is only a few dollars and you can the line looks really clean. I don't see why people pay the money for the braided oil lines myself.
the return I can understand. I have barbed hose one side and compresion fitting on the other I used the compression fitting side tobolt into my oil pan I took the compression fitting bolt off drilled the hole the right size for just the threads to fit through and then tightened down the compression fitting bolt on the inside of the pan until it was tight and added jbweld for security. then ran some weatherhead hose from napa to the turbo and hose clamped it. It's never leaked at all but deep down inside I worry about it. |

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
I used the NAPA hard brake line.... seems to work, and Il probably use it next time too
|
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
brake line leaking?!?!?! the brakes are under more pressure than the oiling system :1 i have seen them leak to, but that was improper assembly.
as for the SS not leaking.... i have had mine leak before. preassembled ATP feed line... :-\ |
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
I use brake line on mine with no problems. Just got a proper fitting to go into the block and then to a npt thread on the other side, used a brass npt T, and got an npt to flare fitting from the auto parts store for the brake line. The other side of the T goes to my oil pressure guage. Never leaked in all my various turbo setups.

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
I'm currently using hard lines, that's how i also regulate the oil pressure going into my turbo using a needle valve.

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
thats ------ pimp right there.... i have a plan formulating on this subject now... might take a while for me to fully realize it, so ill be back later but it will be something like that ;)

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
I have run hard line on my T25, also just squeez the line with some pliers to adj oil press to turbo
|
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
Ive used a hard oil line on my turbo for about 2 years now, works really well. The block fitting is a tunertoys. Flared it my self and used 1/4 fittings.
The return line i use is heater hose, its really-really ghetto but works. |
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
ya ive used heater hose, its pretty tuff even without the braided outside
|
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
I used the hard break line on my trofeo, it worked well and never leaked and was the cleanest part of my setup. The ------- return line did though (it was not a hard line, but shitty hose, should have known)

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
wonder if you could use one of these? would be perfect cuz it has a 1/8th NPT fitting on it, you could just throw a T in the line and put it right on the T instead of having a shady ass nylon line remote mounting it...

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
Personally I think hard lines are gangster, but it's easier to just slap a braided SS line on.

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
I like the idea of using a hard line. How much does one of these setups end up costing between the fittings and the line? I like fubars setup, very clean.

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
around $20 is all
the trick is taking the banjo bolt peice of your turbos stock feedline match the line size with that at napa and connect them with a compression fitting. take your oil sending unit with you to to make sure your buying the right thread and size on your T fitting off the back of the block and grab little fitting that has the right thread to into your T fitting on one side and a compression fitting on the other, the will connect the brakeline to the T off the back of the block then run the hardline to the turbo and connect it to the compression fitting coming off the turbo feedline. and thread your sending unit into the open hole in the T and your done. |
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
And above all, don't forget to support the hard lines with some metal strapping or brackets! With the vibration from the engine you could cause the brass fittings to break, especially on the " t " fitting at the back of the block!
|
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
/\ iunno mine isn't really supported by anything other than vibrating against the drivers side passenger mount and it seems to be still working.

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
are we forgetting here that stock turbo cars use hard lines for their turbo feed lines also? so i say, why not for custom! :y

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
Yes brake line looks good when done right. Plus once its bent up and fitted, remove it and give it a good scrubbing with a scotch brite pad, gives it a nice satin look. Thats what we do on our fuel lines. Ill be doing hard lines on mine. :y

Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
What size are you using? Napa has 1/4" and harborfreight has a bender for $7
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=3755 and a flaring tool for $13 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=40878 |

You dont need a bending tool, just bend the line over any thing that is round, it will hold the shape and look great. |
Re: brake hard lines for turbo oil?
Dang, I wish I would have known about this. Hardline is way cheaper than braided and easy enough to work with.
I will definately use hard line on my next setup for sure. |
