BOV question
Hey all,
I managed to get my hands on a small toyota BOV, but the inlet / outlet diameter is about 1 in. while the diameter of my charge pipes is 2.5 in. I was thinking that if I used a bunch of couplers to put the BOV in line it would blow all the time (2.5in of air pushed through 1in diamater = higher pressure, right?) My question is, is it possible to tee off of my charge pipe to a 1in hose that feeds to the BOV and then back into the charge pipe? Thanks. |
Re:BOV question
thats how you are suppose to do it ::)

Re:BOV question
Thanks,
I figured that the setup would be fine but I wasnt sure. |
Re:BOV question
i was talking about teeing off of your charge pipe, you'll have to cut a hole and weld a piece that you can attach the flange on the bov to

Re:BOV question
I hope your not talking about running the BOV through the charge pipes. All you do is drill a 1 inch hole in the charge pipe and mount the BOV over it. On the BOV outlet i think you would want to run the pipe (or hose) to the turbos intake like the eclipse does. Thas if you want to run it back in the first place.

Re:BOV question
through the charge pipes????

Re:BOV question
The BOV has three openings on it. One very small one which I was thinking was the actual blow off outlet (am I wrong?). Then it has 2 1in openings on either side. My idea was to drill the charge pipe and connect the BOV via a hose at one of the 1in openings. Then I would reverse this, putting a hose from the other 1in opening on the BOV to a second drill hole in the charge pipe. My understanding of this setup was that it would allow the air to pass through the BOV as well as the charge pipe, and the BOV could then release through that small hole. I am staritng to think that the small hole is no the blow off and that I am confused about the whole thing. If someone could instruct me how to post a pic I can show you guys what I have got.

Re:BOV question
no, the big hole is where the air comes out of, the little nipple is for a vaccuum line to run back into your charge pipes (if you want)
|
Re:BOV question
That makes my life easier. Much thanks for the help.
|
Re:BOV question
the nipple on the bov has to be run to a vacuum source or it wont work
|
Re:BOV question
your charge pipes are considered a vaccuum source, but you can run it other places (i.e. tb), that's what i meant by "if you want", was referring to the location
|
Re:BOV question
no, the charge pipes arent going to work for running the nipple to...it has to be behind the throttle body so it will open the bov when you let off
|
Re:BOV question
ohhhhh, i thought you could run it back into the charge pipe ::)
|
Re:BOV question
lemme see if we are talking about the same thing....the vacuum nipple, not the outlet on the bov
|
Re:BOV question
yeah, i was referring to the vaccuum nipple
|
Re:BOV question
yea...has to go to a spot behind the tb
|
Re:BOV question
Thanks for the help guys, I think my best bet would be to take a step back and look at some installation manuals for BOV's to figure out what I am doing. I was under the impression that the BOV opens in response to the shift in positive pressure once the TB closed and the turbo was still compressing the charge, but from what is being posted it looks like I am wrong.

Re:BOV question
it opens when the throttle closes and the vacuum from behind the plate opens the bov
