BOV not sounding @ idle

o.k. I'm just curious as why on my the two other mechanics I work with both have GTi's 1.8T's one has a GFB BOV and the other has a HKS. When you rev. their motor at idle ( just hitting the gas sitting still ) I can hear their BOV's going off. But on my friends 92' Civic with a greddy turbo kit on it running a HKS BOV at 6PSI when I rev. his car the same way I can't hear nothing. I can feel the air rushing out but no noise. The two GTi's one's running 21PSi and the other 17PSI. Is it just that on a honda at only about 6-7PSi there's just not enough pressure to open the valve hard enough to make a noise. When I drove my friends civic you can hear the BOV when shifting just fine. I'm getting ready to put my kit on my EF9 and I'm just alittle curious cause I see DSM's at stock Boost levels ( which is about 10PSI right ? ) doing the same thing and you can hear there's. Is 2PSi make that much of a difference in power and pressure. Sorry if this may sound stupid I"m just curious at way one car does it and another doesn't. Thanks

Re:BOV not sounding @ idle

man people report the same thing..

nothing wrong, also it could be because u running low boost.

Re:BOV not sounding @ idle

I saw what someone posted earlier about it not sounding but that guy thought his BOV might be bad. I know my friends is just fine I"m just woundering if any other honda guys out there do the same thing or know of the same thing... it's just what I thought though I think he's just not boosting enough for it to open the valve hard enough to make a noise I just wanted to be sure. Thanks

Re:BOV not sounding @ idle

The turbo's on the volkwagons are the size of a doughnut and they spool @ idle. The greddy turbo is MUCH bigger (and it's a SMALL turbo) compared to a kkk k03 that your frien'ds have (i'm assuming they are stock) and that would explain alot.

It's pretty hard to build boost at idle-- btw. If its blowing off when driving, and not at idle, that's NORMAL. The turbo's on the vw's are MICROSCOPIC (and that's why they spool @ like 800 rpm's) :P

Re:BOV not sounding @ idle

I have never tried to boost at idle, but I know it would take a hell of allot to build enough boost to open my bov. When I drive normal it almost always sounds. If I drive like a grandma I can stop it from going off. I wouldn't suggest boosting at idle anyways. My buddy has a beefed up F350 Powerstroke and he can hit 10 psi at idle. :P

Re:BOV not sounding @ idle

why do you guys keep saying @ idle..im assuming you just mean not in gear....and why not boost when not in gear?..isnt that just a myth?....and you bov should open whenever you let off the gas, you might just not hear it

Re:BOV not sounding @ idle

If there is no load on the engine, you will hardly hear the bov at idle.

Also, something I noticed, with a T25 at idle (reving up) the BOV is loud, with the exact same setup, using a 14b, you can hardly hear the bov at idle (when reving)
