I just got my greddy bov in the mail and the top hole where the screw threads in is stripped. I heard this can be repaired with a tap and die kit. Can someone explain this to me. Are the bits sized and if so what size do I need to use? If I tap the hole will the screw it came with still work?

Also, once I get it rethreaded how will I know how hard or soft the spring needs to be adjusted?

It will be hard to explain this process without a visual exhibit. My advice is to take that BOV to ACE Hardware store and show it to somebody. Get a pair of tap and die set from them..... ACE Hardware Rocks!

The same thing happened to me...
Taking it to a hardware store to get it rethreaded or something sounds like a good idea.
I ended up just opening the thing up and screwing the bolt onto the underside of the top of the bov. It works, but it's a hastle to adjust, since you have to open the whole thing up to adjust it. Either way, I can't seem to get it set up properly anyways. Mine flutters. I thought it was compressor surge at first, but greddy said it was just set too loose...but I've tightened it up, and the same thing... I think it's better though. I've even tried taking the smaller spring out at one point (I read that it helped on other forums) but it leaked at idle.

By the way, Greddy doesn't warrany BOV's so you can't send it back.

you have a couple of options...you can drill it out, and retap it with a larger thread, or you can drill it out and tap it with a STI (standard thread insert) tap. then you would have to install a helicoil in it...which is far stronger than the original thread.

if you know anyone who works in a machine shop...or can find a local machine shop they could do it in less than five minutes. or if you are in or near southern nh i can do it for you at my shop.

damn I've heard this problem with Greddy BOV's a lot (the fluttering) - this is the BOV I want because I like the sound. I guess I can get the HKS SSQ. They sound similar.
