Re: BOV

Re: BOV

Could be compressor surge

Scott-EP 10-08-2006 06:32 PM

Re: BOV

yea, that sounds more like compressor surge than a BOV

Bordox 10-08-2006 08:14 PM

Re: BOV

the compressor surge...i wont ask what it is ill do research... :y

it's bad.. very bad.

but one bov that sounds like a flutter is the HKS SSQV bov which i realllllllly want :1 ;D

Re: BOV

compressor surge aka compression chatter, is when air being compressed hits the throttle plate goes back and the compressor wheel chops the on comping air, making a fluttering noise, this over time ruines the turbo, thats why bov are important.

and no it aint that bad, just put strain on the turbo that dosent have to be there, supposibly ive heard that in extreme cases the air that rushes back could even undo the bolt holding the comprssor wheel in, i dont know if this is true tho.

YES!!!...you answered my question...thankyou!....ill make sure to get one no matter the cost...nothing sounds better

Re: BOV

im not sure that the hks sounds like flutter, ive heard on on a supra and its just a high pitched PSHHT

Re: BOV

Boost level can greatly change the sound of a blow off valve

Bordox 10-08-2006 08:25 PM

Re: BOV

no its a flutter im gonna try to find a video....umm and by the way this is a quesiton for any BOV really....if i get a universal rather than one for my specific car does that mean i have to "set" it myself ?

HMTguy 10-08-2006 08:28 PM

Re: BOV

Almost all BOVs are universal, mostly the only differences lie in the mounting flange, if they can recirculate, and spring rate which can be adjustable.

here are some comparison on BOV's and the fluttering one is what im talking about...and thats the one i want and well that video kinda answered my question aswell being it lists the BOV is being used at the time :1

the greddy one does some. i have a greddy one its the gay purple bov. it has a fluttering sound to it. so is that bad at all then? it takes like a sec to flutter it all. instead of a just rush of air all at once.

is this when your in boost, or just driving around town? i have the greddy knockoff and it makes this gay ass whistle when im driving around town, but once im in boost say 7psi it blows off all at once. if thats not what it is then i would say you may want to adjust the bolt on top of the bov

salesmonkey 10-09-2006 02:50 PM

Re: BOV

well when im in full boost 14psi. its hard to hear the bov over everything else. but ya when im driving around town at about 1-8 psi. it has a wooshing fluttering sound.

i love that bov duck call! ;D

EG-prince 10-09-2006 06:30 PM

Re: BOV

the hks one makes more of a fluttering sound, but on cars running a ton of boost they often get the fluttering sound anyway because so much air is coming out of the bov when the throttle closes

My friend has a Vortech (I think) and it flutters and sounds like a rattlesnake

Re: BOV

I used to use a blitz ss and during quick shifts at 20psi it it gives off a double sound .
now I use the greddy type rs knockoff its just straight blow off but not as loud as the blitz.

Re: BOV

does anyone has a sound clip a good one

of the Blitz DD bov ?

Re: BOV

D1 cars dont have bovs, oridos supra... no bov on my car for 2 years, until 88 there were no blowoff valves on turbo cars... blowoffs are to maintain the turbos velocity more than to protect things. plus they sound fun. without a blowoff my car sounds like a turkey gobble... ganted - it cant be "good" for the turbo - but even the best bov ever theres still some reversion. im running 22psi on a H1c with a tial now, and that things huuuuge and i still get a little surgy fun time

Re: BOV

is that really the WG ?

how can a WG sound when u lift of the gas pedal ... at that moment it should be close

if it is a BOV it sounds good ..

Re: BOV

Turbonetics raptor, Its an adjustable bov, you can adjust it to make that low quiet flutter, almost sounds like a rattle snake. But it only dose it when you are pushing around 2-5 psi, more than that and it makes the normal pssssshhhhhh sound. Or you can adjust it to sound like that all the time. My brother in-law has one on his srt-4 It sounds nice but I know its spendy..... :o

Re: BOV

My cousins wastegate did that right after we put his kit on. His HKS BOV also flutters. It goes Fl.l.l..l.l.l.l.l..shhhhh

Scott-EP 10-19-2006 09:02 PM

Re: BOV

i think that guy was incorrect about the sound. i think that was a BOV and not a wastegate. but i could be wrong. it wouldnt be the 1st time

I'm putting an E-bay knock-off DD on my car, I can try and remember to get a sound clip if I'm not too busy driving it.

Re: BOV

you guy's remeber those whistles that rev up, eith the spinning thing on top?
i want to put one of those on my bov. that would be bitchin'
prolly wouldn't let alot of boost out that way, but it'd be fun.
fun is my chineese neighbors middle name.
