Default bouncing tach , off idle missfire

i'll start by describing my problem then what i have done to try and correct it.

started tuning my car the other day, drove it around the block 4 times,
check engine light came on @ 2500 rpm's while under no load, so i went back
home to check the code, nothing there. disconnected battery for 5 min and went back out.
this happened again, but instead of taking it easy i bounced it off the rev limiter in 1st-3rd gear,
to try and MAKE it throw a code.
2 seconds after letting off the check engine light came back, engine started surging.

pull into my drive way and rev it up, my tach jumps from 1500- 6k and all over the place.
its missing so bad that it won't pull itself, just cuts out.

ok, so i assume its ignition related so i pull my distributor, resolder all my wires (running msd SCI)
set my timing at the dizzy @ ~16deg, changed plugs , cap/wires are brand new.

same problem.

check all my grounds, eliminate msd altogether, recheck wiring, replaced ignitor.

same problem.

whats throwing me off is that it idles fine, but as soon as i give it gas it starts missing like my timing is off (its not)
or maybe the timing belt slipped ( it didn't, i checked that ---- first several times, verified with timing light)
and the tach jumps all over hell.

running pm6 ecu, y7/y8 mini me, turbo edit, in a 91 civic si.
550 TT injectors, a6 distributor.

any suggestions are welcome.

So...what code was is? If it was the code for IACV or o2, all the resoldering in the world won't fix something like a bad o2. Speaking of which, that could even be the case, as a bad o2 will give you ---- under light load, as its technically ignored under heavy load.

as far as the code, it never actually threw one, it would clear as soon as i shut it off, i was going to try and check it
while driving down the road but i couldn't get it to move by then. plus my 02 is a plx wideband that works fine and
is disabled all the time in turbo edit.

i figured it was one of the crank/tdc sensors in the distributor but i wanted to ask for suggestions before i
replaced that, looks like i'm gonna buy one then. thanks for the help guys!!!

i have the SAME problem. starting from 4500 rpm, rpm needle starts floating everywhere. I get no CEL but the car of course stops pulling as soon as this problem begins.

i have been told it could be the ignitor... ICM is also another option that will verify.

My bet is on the ignitor.

I had the same problem, tach was bouncing all over the damn place, I replaced the ignitor and all is well.

I've heard of a lot of other people with the same problem and the ignitor was the cause as well. I would definately start there since that's the most common cause.

new ignitor? ok!!! it'S probably the only thing I did not change yet!!!
anybody tried this one or is it a scam?
I though the dwell time was not dictated by the ignitor itself but the ecu.... looks like we learn everyday...
