Ok, I got a problem....this turbo happens to be a A/Rs of .60 & 1.32.....damn myself, too ------- big! :7

Edit: Don't ask why I got it either....can my f22a6 spool this fucker?

Re: Bought a new garrett....

you will be hard pressed to spool that at all .

i suggest keeping the compressor section and swpping a t3 .63 exuast housing and wheel to that turbo.

does it still need to be rebalanced even if he's only swapping the housing?

Re: Bought a new garrett....

But he'll need to still take of the backing plate if he changing the housing, but he'll need to change the wheel too, so ya.

No, but he said to also change the wheel, which would require rebalancing.

Re: Bought a new garrett....

Ok, after looking around, I saw a website selling t3 and t4 turbine housings....but how would you know which one will fit?

Re: Bought a new garrett....

your better off just selling it and getting a hybrid already done..

92HondaEX 12-16-2005 02:56 AM

Re: Bought a new garrett....

Seems as though, you can get a smaller a/r turbine housing without changing the wheel and back plate....

Re: Bought a new garrett....

After doing some more research....looks like the t04b turbos only have 2 or 3 wheel sizes and several housing sizes for each wheel size plus some turbonetic housings are compatible with garrett turbos...Check the link below...

Re: Bought a new garrett....

Honestly, you'd be wasting your time and effort with another housing, not to mention money. You have the standard P trim turbine which has a 2.922" major and a 2.544" minor. If you wanted to swap housings and keep the P trim turbine, you could but it would cost you a pretty penny to buy the correct housing, probably more than you bought the turbo for as most of them go for $300 for the housing alone. If you wanted to keep the P trim housing, I'd suggest looking for a divided tang like you have in a .58 or .70 A/R. When you're trying to spool a larger turbine like you have, the divided tang is quite beneficial and will allow you to spool it much easier on a small motor than using an undivided single tang.

Onto turbine swaps, you could easily buy a smaller trim turbine and use your compressor wheel but it would no doubt have to be balanced. I could do it at my shop as I have access to a Heins TC3 and have balanced more turbines than I'd care to remember, but this isn't your greatest option either.

1) It's gonna cost you more money

2) It's gonna cost you more time

3) It's gonna cost you and I more effort than it's worth.

My suggestion is like a couple I've read before, sell it to someone else and buy an already assembled hybrid for the same price that you'd buy a new housing for. I have plenty of turbos but seperating housings isn't in my best interest as I prefer to sell whole turbos, or hybrids at the shop.

hmmm....so I guess my garrett turbo is for sale? Do you have a t3/t04e? That's what I wanted to get in a 57 or 60 trim...

You could try the TurboMustang solution to faster spool on a large snail. Block off one of the exhaust inlets on the turbo :P
