Was bored last night...so here is a Home Depot Catch Can

I was kinda spaced after work today. So I started wandering around home depot.

Thought about my car and the fact that I needed a catch can.

The filters for air compressors were too tall and too expensive for what I wanted.

I eventually ended up in the plumbing isle.....and my brain started working.

This is what I came up with. It also has internal baffles (so the oil doesn't just get sucked right back up again) as well as a fluid level gauge..

Grand total: 30 min of work (+ waiting for the solvent to dry) and $25

lol

The way my engine bay is, it would be easier just to take the can out and dump it ;D

I've alwayse been confused on the 100% reason behind a catch can ??? I just unhooked the PCV and Valve Cover oil breather hoses and let them filter out into the atmosphere with no oil leak problems so far.... ???

If you open atmosphere the PCV or valve cover in Ontario, Canada...it's a $380 fine EACH (compromising an emissions system etc etc....)

As for the chrome ones...A) they are too tall for the spot I need B) they cost a min. of $65 up here...more closer to $80 usually. If you can even find a shop that has them

Plus I needed something ASAP since tommorrow is a track day.

i have been going through technician training in the Ford ASSET program(yes i drive a honda) and the throughout my training i have learned that the main point of the Pcv system is to suck blowby gasses from the crankcase back into the engine to be burned because they are flamable, and also emissions reasons. If you put a filter on a pvc can you lose vacuum and negate the purpose of whole system. Just hook the pcv hose into a vacuum port before the turbo if you have a filter for your turbo. The only vacuum tube that should be opened to the air is the hose that is connected to the intake tube to allow fresh air into the the crankcase. Don't mean to write so much i just see a lot of posts on pcv systems and it seems that many people don't understand the reason they are even on engines.
