Re: boosting y8???

if u still have ur z6 swap the pan, pickup and oil pump for security
if u dont have it then dont worry about it

it has something to do with the oiling design of the Y8 being weaker then a Z6.

The ony probs w/ the Y8 is its obd2. First you need to convert to obd1 to avoid any lil probs along the way. Trust me on this. Also the D16Y8/Y7 oil pumps are crap! There really prone to failling at high rmps. You might wanna use a Z6 pump. you wont be able to use the dipstick but at least you'll be less likely to trash your motor due to oil preasure probs. Also D16Y8/Y7 are also prone to spinning bearings. Has to do w/ the fact that the rods/pistons have an eliptical bore as oppsed to the circular. Someone corret me on this if I worded it wrong. Other then that there awsome engines to boost w/ proper tunning. So far Ive gone through 2 Y8s but the 3rd is hanging in there. ;)

The fact that the pans alum. doesnt matter. Ive tapped 3 Y8 pans easily w/ a drill and JB weld. and the Y8/Y7 pan wont work on the z6. ;)

Re: boosting y8???

I like my y8. I have heard the oil pump story, but that's for the birds. I only think I heard a true concern if you were building the engine and boosting high psi or shooting for big numbers would it be a concern. I don't know though, that's all hearsay. Mine is running fine. The aluminum pan is no deal to tap. The oil pump I have no clue about, same with the rod bearings being poopy (that one is new to me).
